Board Of Supervisors Meeting Highlights - May 5

The Board of Supervisors held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 5. At the meeting, supervisors awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Mortgage Connect as well as recognizing the Our Lady of Sacred Heart boys basketball team on their State Championship. Supervisors also recognized 5 members of Boy Scout troop 198 for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

Finally, supervisors approved the final plan for the park at Luna Ridge, Phase 1, and the final plan for Diamond Ridge, Phase 1 and 2.

Moon Parks and Recreation Summer Camp (Ages 5-9)

Moon Parks and Recreation’s summer camp returns. Our traditional summer camp model provides children with outdoor time, recreation, and lots of fun. Each week kids will enjoy arts & crafts, exercise, games, field trips (TBD), special events, and more! Space is limited, waitlist spaces will be available as program weeks fill.

NEW: Moon Parks and Recreation Pre-Teen Summer Camp (Ages 10-12)
Dates: Monday-Friday, June 7-August 13 (10-weeks)
Time: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Location: Monday-Thursday at Robin Hill Park & Fridays at Moon Park
Fee: $175 per week
Based on parent feedback, we’ve designed a specialized camp for our older campers ages 10 to 12. This new format will allow us to design age-specific activities for campers who may be getting burned after a few years of our traditional camp format. This camp will include new activities and our traditional favorites. The Robin Hill location will provide space for both indoor and outdoor activities. Get the baseball bat and gloves out and come out to the ball field. Moon Park is excited to start a fun and active program. Teams will be picked each day with light baseball activity and plenty of old stories to share. Bats and balls will be provided. Make sure you bring some water and stretch before getting to the field.

Lunchtime Concerts are Back
Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy music in the outdoors surrounded by the natural beauty of Robin Hill Park on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. There is no charge to attend. Enjoy the sunshine for the first concert of the season on May 19.

Memorial Opportunities
at Moon Parks
Are you looking for a way to honor a loved one? Consider dedicating a brick, bench, or tree to your loved one. Bricks may be engraved and placed at either the Memorial Garden at the Moon Township Building or surrounding the Flagpole at Moon Park. Benches are available in multiple designs and include a custom plaque. Benches can be placed at any one of our Moon Township Parks. The system allows residents to submit their concerns and track their resolution through ongoing updates, ensuring a timely response from Moon Township staff.

Moon Township
collaborated with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to bring voice-activated
e-gov to resident's households. This will allow users to download the skill of "Make it Moon" through their Google or Alexa app and then speak to their device to ask about events in Moon or report a problem.
This feature also allows users to find out when events are going on by asking questions such as "When is trick or treat?" or "What do I do with my tree limbs?" Also, it can be used like the e-gov service offered online through the municipality to report problems and ask questions.

Moon Parks and Recreation is taking pavilion rental reservations for the 2021 season. Pavilion rentals can be arranged by calling the Parks and Recreation office at 412.262.1703.
Reservation and payment must be made by the residents to receive the resident rate. Rentals cannot be made in another person's name to get the resident rate.
Reservations can be made for dates from May through September. Monday-Friday at weekday rates, Saturday & Sunday at weekend rates. Only residents of Moon Township receive the resident rate. All agreements and payments must come from the resident.

Moon Township is proud to honor our men and women who are or have served this country through our banner program. The banners go up from Memorial Day and are taken down at Veterans Day to make sure they are protected.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Recycling Day. Moon
Township’s Environmental Advisory Council, with the assistance of
community volunteers, hosts this annual event on the first Saturday
in June to help keep reusable items out of landfills. Eligible items
include usable construction materials, household appliances,
electronics, tires, and some medical supplies. Only one television
per vehicle will be accepted. This event is open to Moon Township
residents only. Proper ID is required.

Glass Recycling Collection Event

Last month's glass collection went great. In response to the removal of glass from many residents recycling programs in the Pittsburgh area, Pennsylvania Resource Council (PRC) launched a network of pop-up glass recycling events. These events recognize that glass remains a recyclable material with vibrant demand in the regional and national recycled marketplace.
The pop-up events hosted by Moon Township will from Saturday, June 12 through Thursday, June 17 at the Moon Township Public Works Building located at 1115 Stevenson Mill Road, Moon Township, PA.
The types of glass accepted are:
- All colors of glass bottles, jars, and jugs only
- Caps, lids, and labels are acceptable
- Containers must be empty

Waste Management At Your Door Recycling Program

Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials. There are three ways to schedule a collection:

There Is Still Time To Enter The Brewer Airport Film Fest

The Brewer Airport Toyota Film Festival returns in May, marking its 10th year for the competition. MCA-TV invites local filmmakers to test their creativity for a chance to win! Films will be judged on originality, creativity, the strength of plot, story structure, characters, cinematography, direction, entertainment value, dialogue (character interaction), and overall quality. All submissions will be broken down into feature-length and short film categories. Last year, thanks to monetary donations from generous sponsors, MCA-TV awarded more than $3,500 in prizes.
Enter your original film before the May 14, 2021 deadline, and watch the event live on MCA-TV on Saturday, May 29. Films will be judged by a panel of film experts from the Pittsburgh Area. You do not have to be a Moon Township resident to participate.

Promote Your Event On The Community Bulletin Board

Is your organization or nonprofit looking to get the word out about an upcoming event? MCA-TV offers a bulletin board service for Moon Township residents to publicize their community program or event in-between regularly scheduled programming. The community bulletin board is an automated, computer-generated video graphics message service provided free of charge to all Moon Township residents as well as nonprofit groups and organizations.
