October Dinner
Special Guest Speaker

Dave Brooks
USN Aviator, Retired

Wednesday, Oct 4, 2017
No Host Bar starts at 6:00 p.m.
Dinner starts at 7.p.m.

Dave Brooks has been a member of the  Estrella Warbirds Museum since 2001.  He has long enjoyed his role as one of the many docents and especially enjoys the opportunity this brings to meet and interact with people from all over the world.  Dave is quick to note that we truly have a unique and wonderful facility.
A California native, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953, as a U.S. Naval Cadet or "NAVCAD" and started his training at Pensacola, Florida in April 1953.  After 18 months of training he was designated Naval Aviation and commissioned as an Ensign, USNR, in October 1954.

During this aviation training, he flew various aircraft, the SNJ, T-28, F6F and AD Skyraider, assigned to his first fleet unit, Fighter Squadron Fifty-Four,  (VF-54), stationed at NAS Miramar, San Diego, California.  Dave was part of Air Group Five (CAG5) and deployed on the USS KEARSARGE CVA 33, From October 1955 to May 1956.

After completing his initial deployment, he was then assignment as a Flight Instructor in Pensacola, Florida, training students in formation flying primarily in the T-34 Mentor. He spent many a free evening and night flying the SNJ.

Following his four year active duty assignment, Dave joined the Reserves and flew the S2F, C-54 (DC-5), and the C-118 (DC-6), and was one of the few non-airline pilots qualified as a Transport Plane Commander (TPC) in the reserve units at NAS LOS ALAMITOS, California.

As speaker for the October Meeting, Dave will share about his Naval career and in particular, his love for the Douglas AD, or now called the A-1 Skyraider.

Make sure you have signed up on line or have a current reservation. Hope to see you there!  More information about  Dave Brooks and the event plus pictures from a previous dinner  can be found at this link.   Dinner is catered and open to the public ($20/person), reservations are required prior to 6 p.m., Monday prior to dinner, either on-line or call call 805 296-1935.

Got Free Time? Want to Meet Great People?

As a growing organization, the Estrella Warbirds Museum is always looking for individuals interested in spending a few hours a week or a month, greeting guests and sharing our wonderful facility and displays with visitors from around the globe.  Now that the city of Paso Robles has granted us lease to an additional 9 adjacent acres, we have plenty of room to grow, which makes room for many hands on deck.  If you enjoy meeting people, we would love to train.  Could be you have a special talent or ability you wish to put to good use? We'd love to talk to you.  Click on the above picture and let us know you are interested.
