The David Lawrence Jr. Award is bestowed on an individual for a lifetime of notable achievement and dedication to children in Miami-Dade County. These achievements over time should display a depth of commitment to children’s causes that have resulted in lasting, systemic impact. By providing recognition to someone who has dedicated considerable time, knowledge, expertise or resources on behalf of children, The Trust hopes to motivate others to work toward improving the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County. Board members and staff of The Trust are not eligible. Nominations are received from the local community at large. Past honorees include Chief Community Services Officer and Former Director of Juvenile Services for Miami-Dade County Morris Copeland, Judge Jeri Beth Cohen, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson; Judge Cindy Lederman; FL state Sen. René García; immigrant rights advocate Cheryl Little; FL state Sen. Nan Rich; autism expert Dr. Michael Alessandri; FL state Sen. Rudy García; Judge William Gladstone; Miami Mayor Manny Díaz; and Tracy and Alonzo Mourning, among others.

Please inform families in your provider network and beyond of two drive-through food distribution events will be held on May 22nd or May 29th for hot meals. Those who register to host or attend a www.READySetGoMiami.com workshop in the month of May, will receive an additional goody bag at one of the drive through events. Those who participate in the drive-through must remain in their cars and wear masks at all times. The Drive-Thru Food Relief Program is sponsored by The Children's Trust and the Miami Dolphins Foundation.

The Children's Trust is sponsoring SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids) training that will be provided in-person on Saturday, May, 15. This training is for contracted Youth Development K-5 providers using SPARK curriculum for fitness. Please limit registrations to two staff per agency per training. Pre-registration is required. Facial coverings/masks are required.

But how do you get families through the door (physical or virtual)? This online training course will help you identify at least two strategies to improve recruitment in your program and at least one setting to expand your efforts. Summer is a time for fun and vacation, but it can also be challenging to find the right summer camp – especially for children with disabilities. With many children attending school virtually since last March, summer camp presents a wonderful opportunity for many to ease back into a routine and get ready to return to school this Fall.

Thanks to a generous allocation from The Children’s Trust, funding is available to provide supports that create meaningful, safe, and inclusive opportunities at Trust-funded summer camps. This is a highly Individualized process taking into account the needs of each child or youth.

Count Me In: Discovering Inclusion for Kids: One of our most popular trainings, come learn fun, meaningful activities to do with your students to build their disability awareness, and encourage them to appreciate differences. This will be a live/in person training event. As a Stop Now & Plan (SNAP) Case Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day case management of SNAP boys and girls which includes completing intake assessments, following up on referrals and scheduling of intake appointments and monitoring youth and family’s progress. Minimum experience: Experience with structured groups and parent education groups is preferred, Community/agency liaison experience is desired.

The training class is followed by a certification test administered by the Florida Certification Board.
