Boatbuilding Subgroup

March 7, 2020 Meeting

The Boatbuilding Subgroup was once again drawn to the Maine woods to the shop of Bill Thomas Woodworking. Bill is an accomplished designer and builder of boats plus a fine teacher. He started with showing us how select and interpret boat plans.

Next we got to inspect one of his own designs, the Fox canoe, and turned over a stitch and glue shellback he was working on. The shellback will be the subject of his next class at WoodenBoat School this summer. This was the second time Bill hosted a meeting for the subgroup. He is always interesting and entertaining. Many thanks to Bill.

Spring Journal Coming in Late April

The next issue of The Journal is in the works. It is scheduled to go the printer by the end of March with likely delivery to you by the end of April.

This is another large issue with a good variety of interesting articles on tap. We are continuing the tradition of members and others sharing their special skills and talents with the membership at large.

Anniversary Celebration—30 Years

Note: Reserve the date on your personal calendar. The Guild calendar is closed to registrations at this time. Let's hope events will be back to normal in the near future.

We are planning a 30th anniversary cookout at Homestead Woodworking School in Newmarket, NH on Sunday, June 28. There will be a tent with catered food, music and family fun.

The Guild was founded in 1990 by 18 serious woodworkers. From those humble beginnings, we celebrate our 30th anniversary this year. The goals were written in this statement which still forms a pretty good foundation for the organization...

"The Guild of New Hampshire Woodworkers is an association of professionals and amateurs bound by a common interest in seeking and practicing excellence in woodworking. Through regular meetings, lectures, demonstrations, juried exhibits, and a newsletter, the Guild strives to bring together the diverse interests of the New Hampshire woodworking community."

The newsletters, going all the way back to that first meeting, are archived here. The newsletter was given the name The Old Saw in February, 1991.

Lie-Nielsen Toolworks

Here at Lie-Nielsen Toolworks we are working to ensure the safety of our customers and our employees during the COVID-19 outbreak. We wanted to thank you for being a valued Lie-Nielsen Toolworks customer in this time of uncertainty, and let you know the steps we are taking to minimize this outbreak while supporting you and our hand tools.

Our Showroom & Hand Tool Events
As many of you know, we canceled our remaining Hand Tool Events for Spring 2020 in light of the coronavirus pandemic. At this time, we plan to continue with our Summer Weekend Workshops and 2020 Open House.

We have also temporarily closed our showroom. If customers wish to pick up tools in our showroom they are welcome to contact us by phone or email and a pickup an be arranged. Owing to the nature of hand tool woodworking and the diversity of locations that our customers travel from, we feel these steps are necessary for the health and peace of mind of both customers and employees.

ALL SCHEDULED EVENTS SUSPENDED

In light of the growing concerns related to the spread of COVID-19 (the Coronavirus), effective immediately (March 13, 2020), the Steering Committee of the Guild of New Hampshire Woodworkers has decided to err on the side of caution by suspending all scheduled events on our calendar until such time it is determined to be safe to resume these activities.

The health and safety of our meeting hosts, demonstrators, meeting attendees, and our general member population are of primary concern to our Steering Committee. As new developments related to this decision become available we will share that information with our members.
