The Estrella Warbirds Museum has always been known for its constant change and quality of the displays.  If you have not been to the museum in a while, there is no better time then this summer to catch up on the latest aircraft, military vehicle or automotive display that has become part of the museum since the last time you visited.

If you have a little bit of extra time on your hands and are looking for a new hobby or willing to share your knowledge or even learn something new, we are always looking for gift shop workers,  docents or volunteers in the restoration or maintenance areas.  We are all family and would like you to join us!  It's fun! There are plenty of new friends to meet and enjoyable times to be had. Contact us today!  We'd love to hear from you.

March Dinner
Special Guest Speaker

Forrest Johnson
Veteran:  Korean Conflict

Wednesday, March 1, 2017
No Host Bar starts at 6:00 p.m.
Dinner starts at 7.p.m.

Longtime Estrella Warbirds Museum member and docent, Forrest Johnson, was born in Pond Creek, Oklahoma during the Great Depression of 1930. At the tender age of 21 he joined the U S Marines and was sent to Korea as part of the United Nations "police action" attempt to prevent North Korean and Chinese Communists from invading the South.

After a year of combat Forrest was shipped back home and found his way to Southern California where he spent 31 years with the Laguna Beach Fire Department; 20 years riding a fire truck and 11 years as training and operations officer. He and his wife Marilyn (married in 1953) moved to Atascadero in 1985 where both became very active in volunteering.

Besides volunteering for our museum, Forrest is a 47 year member of Kiwanis International and a Founder of the Atascadero Veterans Memorial. He is also a licensed private pilot, takes care of a 10-acre walnut grove and raises exotic birds as a hobby.

Forrest remains jovial and optimistic in spite of the horrors he experienced in the frozen mountains of Korea over 65 years ago. He is a true American patriot who did a job his country asked him to do!

Make sure you have signed up on line or have a current reservation. Hope to see you there!  More information about Joe Hale and the event plus pictures from the January dinner

Make your reservations now! Save the date!  One of the largest events held at Estrella Warbirds Museum each year is Warbirds Wings and Wheels. Guess what? This year, we're going bigger and adding a MegaSwap Meet! We're making plans now for over 5,000+ visitors, over 250 cars on display and over 300 automotive swappers! We're expanding to include the MegaSwap on the east-west taxiway adjacent to the museum. And yes, there will a great selection of vendors, live music, raffles, a dinner & barn dance the night before,  food, kids zone and more!  Full information and registration information can be found here.

In 2016, Warbirds Wings & Wheels 8 was filmed for TV and featured by Dennis Gage of the show "My Classic Car." It aired on the Velocity channel, NBCSports Channel and others and will re-air in six months. This showing has generated considerable interest from people around the country who want to take part in the event this year.  If you missed the video, you can watch it on our website here.  Plan now to be part of Warbirds Wings & Wheels 9 & MegaSwap Meet!
