MARCH 17 UPDATE on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) & CONSTRUCTION

The Austin AGC wants to keep you informed on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and its impact on construction activity.  In addition to regular emails such as this, we are posting information on our LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter social media outlets, so be sure sure to follow those regularly as well.
  1. GENERAL INFORMATION/RESOURCES - The AGC of America (AGCA) has an abundance of information on their website here about the fast-evolving coronavirus issue and its impact on construction.  The site is updated often, so please take a look for resources you can use to educate you and your employees.

  2. JOBSITE BEST PRACTICES - Thanks to our AGC safety professionals across the state for providing this helpful list of best practices on the jobsite to help deter infection.  Please use at your firm and distribute widely!

  3. INDUSTRY SURVEY - The AGCA has today released a survey available here that will allow AGC to better understand the impacts of the virus on the industry and better advocate for measures to help the industry weather this storm.  Please complete this survey so we can gather the broadest, most-accurate, possible picture of how the virus is impacting our industry.

  4. OSHA RECORDABLE CLARIFICATION - The AGCA succesfully educated the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) about concerns over the initial OSHA reporting requirement for any employee with coronavirus.  After the AGC intervention, OSHA modified the reporting requirement to only limited circumstance where there is evidence an employee contracted the virus at their place of work.  More information here.
Please know that the Austin AGC, in partnership with other AGC Chapters in Texas and the
AGC of America , is monitoring this issue closely and we will provide additional resources and guidance as they become available.

In the meantime, both myself and Chapter Safety Director Michael Welvaert are available at any time to help you and your company address coronavirus issues.  Do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Phil Thoden
