Virtual Campus Update

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. It is hard to believe that it has been nearly two months since we were on campus together. It has been a challenging time, but many of you have shown your resiliency and stayed the course on your educational journey - we are proud of you and encourage you to keep going. You've got this!

CAMPUS UPDATES

Virtual Student Success Fair

We will host another Virtual Student Success Fair from noon - 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 12. Representatives from our Student Services departments and programs will provide important updates and will be available to answer your questions about our student support resources. Please register in advance online.

Emergency Funding (Student Equity & Achievement Grants)

Many students have submitted an online application for a Student Equity & Achievement (SEA) Grant. While we had an initial distribution of funds last month, we know that many more students are in need.

If you HAVE NOT yet submitted a Student Equity & Achievement (SEA) Grant, I encourage you to submit an online application if you have financial need. Thanks to the CARES Act and our generous donors, we have additional funding and resources to distribute to students soon. If you have already applied, you do not need to do so again.

Summer Session Registration

As you might imagine, there is still uncertainty regarding our ability to return to campus. Because of that uncertainty, we've scheduled all our summer session courses online and will only schedule one six-week session this summer, June 22 - July 30. Summer registration will begin in mid-May; be on the lookout for an email with your registration appointment time. If you would like to speak with a counselor, please know that they are available for virtual appointments.

Commencement

It is with a heavy heart that we must cancel this year's in-person commencement ceremony. However, we will not cancel our celebration entirely - we are hosting a virtual commencement ceremony at 5 p.m. on June 4, 2020. I hope you will join us as we celebrate your classmates who are graduating this year. For those who are eligible to participate, you should have received an email regarding sign up on Friday, May 1. If you did not receive an email from the college, please email [email protected]. For students interested in participating, we will host a Graduate Information Session at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 7.

Scholarship Application Deadline Extended

The application period for scholarships for the 2020 - 2021 academic year has been extended to June 5, 2020. If you will be joining us this fall, I encourage you to apply for these need-based and merit scholarships. Remember, scholarships are a form of financial aid that you do not need to pay back and can be used for fees, textbooks, lab supplies and living expenses.

Virtual Campus Website

As a reminder, we continue to add new resources to our Virtual Campus website at Grossmont.edu/COVID19. The Student Resources page includes contact information for Student Services programs and departments, and the Community Resources page includes links to local public agencies and nonprofit organizations offering assistance during this time. I hope you find these resources helpful.

Please remember that Grossmont College is here for you and we are here to help you be successful. And for my fellow Star Wars fans, May the Fourth be with You!

Be well,
