Dear CLIA Community,

We are continuing to monitor coronavirus (COVID-19) developments closely as we participate in regular conference calls with the Governor’s Office, Visit CA, and other industry leaders. We know many of you are concerned for your staff, families, and businesses. We will get through this challenging time together.

Here is a link to the CDC- Centers for Disease Control & Prevention for the latest information on the Coronavirus:

Some basic things you can do to be safe:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Avoid touching you eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. (Don't forget doorknobs, cupboard/drawer handles, light switches, etc.)
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Owners and Operators
The Governor’s Office and GO-Biz has compiled guidance from California Agencies and Departments for use by California employers and employees as it relates to Coronavirus (COVID-19). Many of your concerns can be found here: https://business.ca.gov/coronavirus-2019/.

Governor Gavin Newsome held a press conference yesterday and outlined new protective measures to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The highlights include:

  • People 65 and older and those with chronic health conditions to isolate themselves from others
  • Closing of all bars, wineries, nightclubs, and brewpubs
  • Restaurants may remain open but can serve only half as many as their maximum occupancies to create safe social distancing between diners.
  • Nonessential gatherings be limited to 250 people

Some cities may have more restrictive measures. Please consult your local authorities for current guideline.

Visit California has been an invaluable source of information for the travel and tourism industry. To stay up to date, visit:

CLIA will continue to provide up-to-date information as it becomes available. In these challenging times, we are stronger together. We will get through this.
Be safe. Be responsible.

Dear CLIA Member and Partner

These are unprecedented times.  The situation surrounding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to evolve. This afternoon, Governor Newsom and state public health officials announced that California is recommending that the most vulnerable people remain at home, including individuals 65 and older, those with underlying medical conditions, and many persons with disabilities.

In addition, the Governor emphasized a key priority to support unsheltered Californians by providing housing immediately to support their health and well-being and by extension, the well-being of all Californians. This is where you have an opportunity to step up and be a part of the solution.

The state is taking unprecedented, accelerated action to secure hotels and motels as appropriate sites to support this mission.  The Department of General Services and Department of Social Services are contacting specific hotels and motels to inquire about their ability and willingness to participate by leasing their entire stock of rooms to provide safe housing for the most vulnerable Californians.  The state will enter into lease agreements and provide funding for this purpose.

The state will provide further guidance and work with hotel owners on additional details related to the operation of these facilities once leased to the state, as well as the appropriate protocols and procedures any employer will need to employ to protect their staff’s health and safety. In most cases, we expect that your staff could be redirected to other properties, or given paid leave based upon the lease payment revenues.

If you have not been contacted and wish to be considered, please send an e-mail indicating your property, location, capacity, and contact information, to CDSS at DepartmentOperationsCenter@dss.ca.gov

We encourage you to step up to ensure this mission is successful. Simply put, it is our responsibility to help each other. California is depending on us to do the right thing. Thank you in advance for considering how best to contribute.
