HEY
GLOBE
COMMUNITY
This is the best resource for staying in the know.
Dear GLOBE Community,

The deadline for submitting Intent to Return Surveys is quickly approaching. Current GLOBE students must complete the Intent to Return Survey letting us know if they plan to re-enroll for next school year. This is due this Friday, February 5. Click here to complete it. This is extremely important, so help us out! Having an accurate count for the school year allows us to plan and budget appropriately or allows a student from our waiting list to fill the open spot.

Open Enrollment for NEW applicants is taking place now (Jan. 25-Feb. 19). Click here if you have a new student to enter into GLOBE’s lottery. Siblings must apply.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Q: How does DeKalb returning to in-person affect GLOBE's position?

A: We cannot open The GLOBE Academy before the DeKalb County School District opens for students. Once DCSD opens for students we will look at our Venn diagram (see graphic below) to determine what is best for our students and staff. Please see our explanation below of the considerations and factors we are weighing weekly to inform our decision making and determine our re-opening timeline.
Making Decisions
  • The decision to return is informed by 1) health and safety concerns, 2) student wellbeing, and 3) community context.
  • No single factor is a determining factor in GLOBE’s decision to return to in-person learning.
  • We are continuing to use and prioritize our thresholds as defined by our committee to understand community spread and risk to our community. However, these current thresholds are not determining factors in reopening.
  • We are flexible and adapting to ongoing updates in CDC guidance and the science of COVID-19
  • Our decision to return will be rooted in science, be evidence-based, and will be responsive to the unique needs of our DLI model and GLOBE community.

GENERAL UPDATES

Congratulations to GLOBE’s Elementary Reading Bowl team who, under the leadership of 4th grade French teacher Caitlin Roe, came in 2nd place in DeKalb’s first ever virtual reading bowl competition! The team will be moving on to compete in the Regional Competition on Saturday, February 20.

MAP Testing for School Choice Magnet Program Applicants
Parents who completed the form requesting in-person MAP testing for school choice magnet program applications should have received an email from Mrs. Limor with information about testing sessions. If you did not receive this email or have further questions, please reach out to Mrs. Limor directly jlimor@theglobeacademy.net.

GLOBE Re-Opening Playbook
Need a refresher on what to expect as we prepare to re-open GLOBE for on-campus learning, our Reopening Playbook is available on our website under the For Parents tab for your convenience. Click the button below for quick access.
Chromebook Troubles?
Is your student having trouble with his/her Chromebook? We have recently installed a new extension that will help to monitor and clean Chromebook CPU and RAM usage. If your student is having trouble getting or staying connected to classes, or finds that new tabs just keep “loading,” please check this extension for more information. If the memory and CPU usage is close to 100%, try restarting the Chromebook and opening fewer tabs at a time. Reach out to Mrs. Limor (jlimor@theglobeacademy.net), if you need a service appointment.

From Our Nurses
This year more than ever, it is important for students to receive the flu vaccine. Because symptoms of the flu can mimic those of COVID, it is important to try to lessen the confusion. Also, with hospitals filling up with COVID patients, it is prudent to stay out of hospitals and doctor’s offices as much as possible.
Lower Campus

We’re Halfway There!

This school year, GLOBE is facing significant budget cuts. We are currently halfway to our goal of raising $300,000 in unrestricted funding for GLOBE this school year. We still need your help to make sure we reach our goal, so please consider making a one-time or recurring gift to the Annual Fund. Every dollar counts and we appreciate your support!
