Dear District 113 Student-Athletes, Parents, and Coaches:
First and foremost, we hope that you and your family are healthy during the challenging times we are facing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Like you, we were saddened by the suspension of in-person learning for the remainder of the school year. We also understand that this has brought additional uncertainty to the remainder of the spring athletic season. We are appreciative and gratified that so many of you have remained in close contact with your teammates and coaches and that you have continued to prepare to conclude your spring season. This commitment and spirit speak to what we all believe is the value of team membership and the real definition of the term “student-athlete.”
With that being said, at the IHSA Board of Directors meeting held today, April 21,
the IHSA determined
that:
- IHSA Spring State Tournaments are canceled.
- The IHSA Board of Directors is open to allowing spring sports game competition if/when the state deems it safe, and have placed no date parameters on that possibility at this time.
- Summer Contact Days are suspended as well for the time being. More guidance to come on this as we work with the state and ISBE.
Today's statement from IHSA can be found
here.
In response to the IHSA guidance, it is important to know that District 113 extracurricular athletics and activities will only be permitted if campuses are re-opened and accessible to students and staff.
This includes any continuation of spring athletics and summer camps. We will continue to rely on guidance from Governor Pritzker as to when and how we will re-open our campuses. Student health and safety will be the primary consideration in any District 113 decision regarding the continuation of extra-curricular activities.
Over the next month, please continue to stay connected with your team, your teammates and your coaches. Now more than ever, we need each other for support and guidance.
We will continue to keep you updated with any additional information regarding athletic participation.
Sincerely,
Nate Flannery, DHS Associate Athletic Director
Gayle Luehr, DHS Interim Athletic Director
Randy Oberembt, DHS Interim Athletic Director
Colleen Boilini, HPHS Assistant Athletic Director
Jon Rowley, HPHS Athletic Director
