Weekend Lineup
Week 6: POLKA ONline - Sean Orr, Keith Hickle, Brunch with Alex

Hope everyone is staying healthy! This just in: Munich has canceled Oktoberfest! The event draws about 6 million visitors each year. It was previously canceled during the two world wars; during a period of hyperinflation in Germany in 1923; and twice because of cholera outbreaks in the 1800s.

Closer to home, dance and festival cancellations are listed on polkabeat.com. The list represents cancellations that I know about. If dances/live music are still on the schedule, please call the venue before heading out.

Remember to dance like no one is watching, which pretty much is the case if you're dancing at home...until we can all polka on!

Coming in May: Social distancing means no social dancing. Our cover story looks at how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the Texas music scene. Gary E. McKee concludes his feature on Lawrence Welk and proves the bandleader was a pretty cool guy. Justin Everett reviews music of Darrel Appelt, who also happens to be the subject of his DJ profile. Of course, we have your May calendar of dances, festivals, and live music events. Please check venue and organization websites and Facebook pages to see if events are still on. Also check the calendar on polkabeat.com, which is updated daily. Publisher Theresa Parker also announced that Texas Polka News will go to an every-other-month publishing schedule due to lost ad revenue from canceled events. There will be no June issue. The July issue will be published the week of June 22.

WEEKLY LAUGH
Some stay-at-home observations:

I used to spin the toilet paper roll like it was Wheel of Fortune. Now I turn it like I'm cracking a safe.
I need to practice social-distancing from the refrigerator.
PSA: every few days try your jeans on just to make sure they fit. Pajamas will have you believe all is well in the kingdom.
Homeschooling is going well. 2 students suspended for fighting and 1 teacher fired for drinking on the job.
I don't think anyone expected that when we changed the clocks we'd go from Standard Time to the Twilight Zone
This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came into my house, told my dog..... we laughed a lot.
Quarantine Day 5: Went to this restaurant called THE KITCHEN. You have to gather all the ingredients and make your own meal. I have no clue how this place is still in business.
My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee it cleans the toilet bowl.
I'm so excited --- it's time to take out the garbage. What should I wear?
I hope the weather is good tomorrow for my trip to Puerto Backyarda. I'm getting tired of Los Livingroom.
Classified Ad: Single man with toilet paper seeks woman with hand sanitizer for good clean fun.
Day 6 of Homeschooling: My child just said "I hope I don't have the same teacher next year".... I'm offended.
Better 6 feet apart than 6 feet under
