"Is the Lord's arm too short?"
- Numbers 11:23 -

It was a caterer’s nightmare-600,000 tired, grouchy, and ravenously hungry men. The people complained to their leader Moses. “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost-also cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite, we never see anything but this manna!” God had provided food for them but the didn't want to eat. The people were hangry.

hangry adjective

The people complained to Moses who cries out to the Lord in frustration. “Why have you brought this trouble to your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?” God had given the people plenty to eat and drink, but they were not happy.

God replies in anger and said he would give them meat all month
“-until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it because you have rejected the Lord, who is among you…”

Moses responds in doubt and sarcasm, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’ Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?”

Then the Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.”

God provided.

God will provide for you too. God hears our cries and reminds us that He will do exactly as He says-He will give us what we need. Oftentimes we are hungry, maybe not for meat, but for something else, something more. A better job, a better career, a better home, and even better food. Perhaps you are grouchy with life’s menu… the days seem to blend into one another and you just want more. God has provided, and yet you are hangry. Hear the words of our Lord Jesus… “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

It is Jesus who fills us with all we need today. It is Jesus who will come again to take us to dine with him at the great eternal banquet in his timing.

Join us Sunday as we reflect on God’s promises in The Story, chapter 6. We will also celebrate Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descends on God’s people in a powerful way, just as Jesus promised. Impossible? Is the Lord’s arm too short?

See you Sunday, I can’t wait!
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
