Washington High School Wins JV Scholar Bowl State Title
|
Washington High School sent three teams to compete at the 2020 Missouri Academic Coaches Association JV State Championship. WHS A defeated CIS A in round 9, and then won the first game of the final to go undefeated and claim the 2020 MACA JV State Championship. This was Washington's third win in a row, and five of the past six years.

Washington High School Celebrates FFA Week
|
Washington High School celebrated National FFA Week Feb. 22-29, 2020. Chris Dunard, WHS Agriculture Education instructor and FFA adviser, and his students participated in week-long activities at WHS.

Looking for Presenters For Parent Summit
|
Requesting presentation proposals from teacher experts, community members and others for the School District of Washington's Parent Summit on November 17, 2020. If interested in sharing your knowledge, submit a proposal by April 8, 2020. Plan for roughly a 50-minute presentation.

The School District of Washington does not currently have any confirmed cases of the coronavirus. We would be notified of any such confirmations by the Department of Health.
We are working within the confines of the CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommendations and will continue to follow our health, sanitation and safety protocols. In the meantime, we urge all families to continue to maintain healthy habits as we do during any cold and flu season.

Grab-And-Go, Delivery Meal Program Begins
|
The School District of Washington's Grab-And-Go and Delivery meal service kicked off on Tuesday, March 24. Members of the SDOW food service staff prepared over 600 bags of meals, which totaled over 3,600 meals for District families.

Family Reading Night, a free community event organized by The Missourian, was held on Friday, March 6, at Washington Middle School.
This year's guest author/illustrator is Peter H. Reynolds. The creator of dozens of books, including past Missourian Book Buzz Picks "The Dot" and "Word Collector," Reynolds will share his newest book, "Be You!," an upcoming March Book Buzz Pick.
In celebration of the book, the theme for this year's Family Reading Night was "Be A Reader!"

Washington High School senior Brandon Titter is one of approximately 15,000 Finalists in the 65th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Titter was named a Semifinalists during the fall, one of only 16,000 recipients out of approximately 1.6 million students from more than 22,000 high schools that entered the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
From the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, roughly 15,000 students advanced to the Finalist level. This represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Lindsay Meyer is the new head volleyball coach at Washington High School.
A 2012 graduate of Washington High School, Meyer previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) for the last two seasons (2018-19).
Meyer replaces Susan Harms, who stepped down after two seasons as the WHS volleyball coach.

Contract Awarded for Construction of New Elementary School
|
The School District of Washington's Board of Education awarded a $15,852,400 contract to K&S Associates Inc. of St. Louis for construction of a new elementary school on a 75-acre parcel at Highway 100 and St. John's Road.
The contract was awarded during a special meeting Tuesday, March 3, at the District Office.

Labadie Elementary School held its spelling bee on Tuesday, March 10.
Lainey Ahal, a fifth-grade student, was the winner of the spelling bee. Kate Eckelkamp, a fifth-grade student, was the second-place finisher. Jade Kreese, a fourth-grade student, placed third.

Campbellton Elementary held a spelling bee for students in grades four through six on Friday, March 6.
Paul Briggs, a sixth-grade student, was the winner of the spelling bee. Peter Bush, a sixth-grade student, was the runner-up.

South Point Elementary School held a spelling bee for students in grades four through six on Friday, Feb. 28.
Eleanor Raeker, a sixth-grade student, was the winner of the South Point Elementary spelling bee. Tyson Herman, a fourth-grade student, finished in second place.

Clearview Elementary School held its spelling bee for students in grades four through six on Thursday, March 12.
Gavin Krimmel, a sixth-grade student, was the winner of the spelling bee. Evelyn Pape, a fifth-grade student, was the runner-up.

Students in the CAPS Teaching Careers program competed in the Missouri Educators Rising State Conference on Wednesday, March 4.
A total of 13 students from the chapter competed, and nine went home with medals, qualifying for the National Competition June 18-21 in Washington D.C.
