Report from Chamber Economic Development Coordinator: Millie Stirling

Happy Summer!
Here it is July already and we are sending out our last newsletter for the summer of 2022. The Board takes a break through the summer but that doesnβt mean that the Chamber wheels stop turning π
June was a busy month for us at the Chamber. The Chamber received a Bursary from the BC Chamber Executives to assist with the expenses for me to attend the BCCE AGM and Conference as well as the BC Chamber of Commerce AGM and Conference. They were held back-to-back in Prince George and it was an incredible experience for me. The days were packed full with meetings, networking, educational sessions, panel discussions and policy. I had the privilege of meeting Chamber Executives from all over British Columbia who now form a very strong support network for my role at the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce......

Ladysmith Chamber Memorial Golf Classic Recap!
|
The Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce Memorial Golf Classic in Memory of Larry Ingram was held on Friday, June 17th and was a huge success! It is the marquee fundraising event for the Chamber. We sold out the event with 22 teams and had a fantastic selection of silent and live auction prizes. We would like to express our gratitude to our sponsors, volunteers and all the generous bidders for our auction prizes without whom this exciting event would not have been possible. There were lots of smiles on Cottonwood Golf Course Friday with the sun shining and everyone enjoying an in person social event.

Board Governance Overview |
Webinar training series for not-for-profit Boards & staff.
We are pleased to offer this incredible opportunity through the BC Chamber of Commerce. Our world is changing and our community is growing. Deb McClelland from OnBoard training is a dynamic and knowledgeable leader and will provide you with tools and tips to take your Board to the next level. This course will help you to attract and maintain an excellent Board as well as ensure your Board is running efficiently. It will assist your Board members in understanding their role on the Board as well as the important rules governing this important volunteer position. I am fortunate to have met Deb as well as been able to receive training from Deb and found it incredibly interesting and relevant. Should you have any questions regarding the training, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Summary: Governance refers to the oversight of an organization. Best practices in governance means that a board ensures their optimal performance through the implementation of effective systems.
In three 1Β½-hour webinars, Deb provides an overview of best practices in board governance. These sessions serve as both an orientation to good governance as well as a refresher for those who have previously received governance training.

PARKING IN LADYSMITH β FRIENDLY REMINDER.
We want to make sure that you and your customers have easy access to and know about free downtown parking options.
We would like to ask that all business people, owners and employees please park in the designated parking lots and not on First Avenue and side streets.
We must ensure that there is available parking adjacent to the businesses where customers are shopping and doing business.
Ease of parking is directly related to customer traffic in our stores and businesses, the more easily a customer finds a parking spot near their intended destination, the more likely they are to patronize that business. And we can always use happier customers and more business!
