THE NEED FOR A STRATEGY TO PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH IS the biggest obstacle for when and how to reopen schools. As of now, there is no official plan and the uncertainty for school districts is becoming increasingly difficult. As needs increase for schools to make adjustments for academic, emotional, and logistical support due to the Coronavirus, the potential for school aid to be knocked down during 2020-21 creates an even greater challenge.

WITH A RECORD number of businesses shut down, the hope is that federal funds can help supplement state budgets to continue state support of healthcare and public education. If this fund is established, it will focus on population, infection rates, and revenue loss. The money granted in previous federal stimulus packages does not address state budget shortfalls.

NOW THAT SCHOOLS and families are virtually connected, we can see how teachers are rising to the challenge of making online learning work. Teachers have embraced creativity in an effort to get things right. Providing ways to ensure special education needs are met per each students individual IEP, is particularly challenging, yet invigorating for many educators.
