Work is moving forward on our Blueprint Jordan River Refresh! Even though we can't meet in person, we've been collaborating with our board, stakeholders, and partners via Zoom over the past several weeks to talk about what we've done well and to identify priorities for the future. Here's a quick summary with some of what we've discussed so far:
The biggest accomplishments we’ve made:
- Lake-to-lake trail completion
- Creation of the Jordan River Commission
- Meander corridor restoration
Biggest needs moving forward:
- Improve homelessness and safety issues
- Improve east-west connectivity and access
- Improve water quality
Stay tuned for more updates—including a public kickoff, public meetings, and a public survey—in the coming months!
Some background
In 2008, Envision Utah helped bring numerous stakeholders together to form a vision for the Jordan River called “Blueprint Jordan River.” Now, we’ve made significant progress toward making that vision a reality. Trails and parks dot the length of the waterway and the Jordan River Commission (created due to recommendations from the original Blueprint) is active from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake. But there's still work to be done!
Following the 10-year anniversary of Blueprint Jordan River, the Jordan River Commission and Envision Utah are beginning work with citizens, stakeholders, and partners to refresh the vision and strategically identify our priorities for the next decade.
