Welcome to Fall 2021! We hope that your families are all safe and well.
We are really proud to say that our little charity reached a huge milestone in September 2021. We have now donated more than $1,000,000 to hospitality and tourism workers that are in financial need because of a health condition to themselves or a family member. We could not have done this without the support of all of you. Thank you from all of the people that we have helped and their family and friends.
As we put away our golf clubs for the season, or at least I do, we are looking forward to 2022’s golf season. We are starting to plan three golf tournaments in BC in 2022 (Okanagan, May 10, Vancouver July 4 and Victoria August 23, 2022). If you are interested in joining our golf committee in each city we would be excited to have you. Please email me at dana@danalee.biz
If you are looking for a way to support us that does not cost anything please help us spread the word so we can help more people. Please take a minute this week to let 5 friends know about our charity. However, if you can afford it, I hope that you will consider becoming a monthly donor to the BCHF, no amount is too small, $5 can go a long way if we all chip in. We have 22 fabulous donors already and hope to reach 40 by the end of the 2021. We send you a tax receipt at the end of the year with a big thank you and overview of whom we helped. Just 22 monthly donors …. I am sure we can do better.
We have all sorts of great things happening at the BCHF these days. We hope that you will take a minute to read through all of our news below and , as always, if you have any questions or suggestions we would be happy to hear from you anytime.
Enjoy the fall season!
Dana

Over $1 million given to beneficiaries
|
|
We have given over $1 million to hospitality and tourism workers facing financial crisis due to a health condition experienced by themselves or a family member.
Beneficiaries of the charity include not only restaurant chefs and servers, hotel workers, and baristas, but many behind-the-scenes workers such as delivery drivers, sales representatives, writers, brewmasters, winemakers, and vineyard workers.
How we started
The BCHF was created in 2006 in response to the situation of longtime local wine agent Michael Willingham. When Willingham had a stroke that left him partially paralyzed, his friends and colleagues rallied around him, raising $50,000 to purchase a machine that would enable him to breathe at night. Willingham was deeply grateful for the assistance, but he also recognized that there were many others in the hospitality industry who needed help, so he requested that a charity be set up to assist those in need. In the past 15 years the BCHF has provided financial assistance to 254 people.

We are excited to share that we were chosen as one of the charities for students to work on a practical case study assignment for their Masters Degree.
Three different teams of students will create sponsorship packages for the BCHF tailored to promote the foundation and provide value to corporations when sponsoring any of our events.
In order to provide the students with as much information as possible about the BCHF, we will be sending out a short survey which we ask you respond promptly.
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact Dana@danalee.biz.

The BCHF is a charity that supports hospitality workers facing financial crisis due to a health condition. These are the people who work in your favourite restaurants, wineries, breweries, bars, and hotels. Often with limited access to benefits or financial aid, our beneficiaries have nowhere else to turn if a health condition arises. Your support has a meaningful impact by getting them back on their feet again.
