Welcome Back Message from Dr. Turner
|
Dear SVUSD Families,
I’d like to take this opportunity to officially welcome all of our students and families to the 2020-2021 school year! While the beginning of this year looks different than what we have ever experienced before, I’m confident that Distance Learning 2.0 will prove to be a positive and meaningful learning experience for all of our students. We will continue to focus on SVUSD’s vision of SV Innovates: a focus on intentional lesson design and engaging strategies, all supported through innovative practices to create successful students now, and in the future.
Our teachers, administrators and support staff have worked harder than ever to provide high-quality instruction to all of our students for not only Full Distance Learning, but also for the Hybrid model when it is permissible to physically be present on campus once again.
Again, on behalf of the SVUSD Board of Education, SVUSD staff and myself, welcome back and may everyone have a great 2020-2021 school year!
Thank you,
Crystal Turner, Ed.D.

Summer Committee Teacher Team
|
|
Many thanks to our amazing committee of SVUSD elementary teachers and coaches who worked ALL summer long to develop a pacing guide for our eLearning plans for all grade levels. As a result of their hard work and creativity, SVUSD teachers have access to state of the art, high-quality, standards-aligned lesson plans for every day of the first trimester. Our elementary teachers are ready to keep their students learning in any model of instruction. We want to thank this important team and there were more of you out there ready to help.
Committee: Maloree Nigg, Cheryl Rys, Carol Veravanich, Tatum Kantor, Hayoung Oh, Carrie Nichols, Mary Collins, Ashley Corlett, Leslie Moritz, Natasha Rios, Debbie Higgins, Andrea Rios, Leslie Harrison, Cecile Vu, Mandy Kelly, Kelli Day-Lambeth, Erika Garcia, Shannon Ciaccio, Jo-Ann Goldenberg, Nichole Walker, Lindsey Gatfield

Leslie Moritz and Cheryl Rys (Valencia Elementary) have been involved with CAG (California Association of the Gifted) for the past 5 years and are master teachers for CAG. This past summer, they had the opportunity to present at the CAG Virtual Summer Institute, a 3 day virtual learning experience for teachers & administrators to participate in curriculum development and to expand their expertise on how research and theory are transferred into practice. Their session focused on the universal theme of Structure along with using the prompts of depth and complexity. #SVUSDShines!

This change in time will allow parents to pick up meals for that day and return home before students log on for distance learning instruction. This time change may also be more convenient for working parents. Students do not need to be present in the car to pick up school meals.
