I joined DBOT (then Greater Dufferin Area Chamber of Commerce) and got involved in the women’s networking group, DWIB. I have chaired that committee for 5 years ending in January. The connections, I've made in this community have been invaluable to the continuation and success of my business. If there is one piece of advice I can give business owners it's, "get involved"! Take advantage of the events, programs, discounts, committees and learning opportunities that your membership provides. The connections we make in the community help drive business forward.
I've volunteered on the board of directors since 2013 and have gained experience in many issues affecting the local business climate. Now working alongside Diana Morris, Wade Striebel and Lisa Thompson, we are extremely excited to push new initiatives forward to help benefit businesses in Dufferin.
DBOT has very recently launched the Dufferin Biz Hub a co-working space in our Hockley Valley Road office. This is a perfect place for home businesses to host meetings and events.
We are gearing up for the May 7/20 interactive skilled trades event, Dream Dufferin. This event will help address the skills trades shortage and allow people in 2nd careers, students and commuters to find exciting career options.
As I learn the ins and outs of my new role, I encourage member participation and feedback.
