Operations Update
We would be neglectful if we did not begin this report with a brief description of impact that the coronavirus (COVID-19) has had on our mission. The latest events demonstrate that each day when we wake up that God is not only good but is abundantly full of mercy and mystery. We are pleased to report that to date we are unaware of any of the children or the dedicated staff who have contracted the virus. We also are delighted to report that all of the children in all of our care centers and foster care operations have been accounted for and are safe and secure. Specific to China, several of the children who were traveling during Chinese New Year to their ancestral homes have been unable to return to our care centers due to travel restrictions. We are monitoring their whereabouts and all are currently being taken care of by their relatives or host families. We continue to track their locations and provide both moral and financial support and look forward to their safe return to our centers shortly. All of the children in other countries including India, Myanmar, Mongolia and Nepal are safe and secure but like their counterparts in the U.S. their lives have been disrupted as they struggle with their inability to pursue their educational endeavors as well as other daily activities. We ask that you continue to pray that God will watch over them and provide them with the understanding that they are protected and watched over by Him and those who believe in Him.
A Foundation in History
by
John Dourjalian, Board Member
Several years ago we were introduced to Nell Chennault Calloway, the CEO of the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum in Monroe, Louisiana. Nell's interest in history and China began as a young child carefully listening to stories told to her by her grandfather General Claire Chennault, the legendary commander of the Flying Tigers.
This connection developed into a personal and deep connection with Nell. Our exchange reminded her of stories/rumors she had heard regarding her grandfather's personally supporting war orphans during his time in China. Recently to her extreme delight she was able to find the stories of this reality in his letters at that time.

Medical Update - Lu Kaiwen
Lu Kaiwen's village is over 100 miles away from the city of Guilin, Guangxi. Confirmed COVID-19 cases were down, so our worker was permitted to drive to the remote and impoverished village. It took him over three hours to get to Lu Kaiwen's house. The GPS took our worker right to it, even though the house is hidden deep in the mountains. The family lives in a small bungalow - it was meant to be a two or three story home, but they ran out of funds.

A healthy boy greeted our worker at the house. It was hard to believe this was the same boy he saw two years ago with heart disease. This boy was stout and wholesome. He has a 5-year-old sister, who also came to greet us. They thanked our worker profusely when our gifts were handed to them. Kaiwen was born in March of 2012 and at the age of six he had heart surgery at the Affiliated Hospital of Guilin with funds provided by Agape Asia Foundation.

Kaiwen had Congenital Heart Disease when our worker first met him, an ailment that weighed heavily on his parents and grandparents. His grandfather suffered from heart disease in the past as well. His father is working a temporary job over 400 miles from home since they receive very little from the rice paddy field. Because schools have delayed starting, his mother must stay home with her children and is unable to work. His grandparents work in the fields and go up to the mountains to collect wild plants like bamboo shoots and collect wood to cook with.

The family took our worker in as a member of their household. This is a pure and diligent family. They expressed that no one could believe unknown strangers who live so far away in the United States would help their grandson to make him a "wholesome grandson who makes them proud and content for their lives." This is only one of the works made possible by the Agape Asia Foundation - one that has blessed a humble family deep in the mountains of Guangxi, China.
