CRUISIN’ PINK
Dear Community Partner, Are you ready to go CRUISIN’ PINK in October for Breast Cancer Awareness month? Join us for a socially distanced, safe event held on October 14, 2021 | 5 pm - 7 pm.

This year’s event we are encouraging everyone to decorate their vehicles in honor of breast cancer awareness month, wear your pink and join us for a fun night of cruisin’ the streets of Portsmouth. Kick off your cruise at 5 pm by joining in the cruise route along Portsmouth streets (map is included). Cruise around town and enjoy some fun socializing from the safety of your vehicle. Let’s drive to spread a message of hope for a cancer free future.

Cruisin’ Pink t-shirt sales began September 30th. Gather up your order, fill out the attached order form and email it to SOMCPaintItPink@gmail.com. Orders of 25 or more can be delivered to your business, smaller orders must be picked up at the SOMC Friends Center.

Our annual Pink Out day is October 15th. Be sure to get your Cruisin’ Pink t-shirt and show your pink pride by taking pictures and tagging SOMC on your favorite social media outlet with #cruisinpink2021 or email your photos to Aubrey Roy at roya@somc.org.

OPIOID RECOVERY FRIENDLY WORKPLACE INITIATIVE WEBINAR

Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 9 – 11am, the OhioMeansJobs Career Centers of Pike, Adams, Brown, and Scioto Counties in collaboration with Working Partners and the Business Resource Network will be hosting a no-cost webinar which will be providing valuable information for businesses to understand how current alcohol and drug trends impact the workplace. 
Topics being covered in this webinar: 
  • The dynamics surrounding a positive test for the employer and employee 
  • Best-practice strategies for preventing and responding to substance misuse in the workplace, including supporting employees in recovery 
  • Resources available in Ohio to support employers around these important issues 
  • Current alcohol and other drug trends impacting the workplace 
This webinar will be delivered by Working Partners, a training and consulting firm specializing in helping workplaces minimize the risks associated with substance misuse. As a nationally recognized expert on drug-free workplace issues, Working Partners collaborates with businesses and communities to create behavioral change in adults and ultimately improve the quality of the workforce.

Visit our Facebook page, look for the pictures of baskets available, then bid and bid again in the comments for the ones you want.

Winning bidders will be contacted the week of October 18th to arrange payment and pick-up.
Do some early Christmas shopping or find something fun for yourself! It is a great way to help the Senior Center pay for the 40,000+ meals we provide each year.

OhioMeansJobs Career Center at Community Action Committee of Pike County will be hosting a Job Fair event on:

This event will feature a variety of businesses with multiple positions available in the area. Positions range from customer service, general labor, health care, logistics, cleaning, and more. The participating businesses will be accepting applications and resumes on-site and will be available to discuss position details in-person.  
REBUILDING YOUR CREDIT WORKSHOP 
 
The Free Tax Preparation and Financial Literacy Program of the Workforce & Business Development Program at the Community Action Committee of Pike County is offering a Rebuilding Your Credit Workshop the evening of Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the OhioMeansJobs Career Center of Pike County at 941 Market Street in Piketon.   
 
This workshop is being offered at no cost. The workshop will review important information on credit scores and why a credit score is important. Also, “Good” vs “Bad” credit scores, how to dispute credit claims, what are credit repair companies, how to avoid scams around credit repair; and ways to rebuild your credit score.

Introduction to Trenches and Excavations Course
Course Description:
This awareness level course is designed for workers who perform work in and around trenches and excavations. This course will familiarize participants with recognizing and avoiding hazards associated with this type of work. This class will not certify workers as competent persons. Contact Hours: 2.

COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE OF PIKE COUNTY
HOSTING TRUNK-OR-TREAT EVENT 
 
The Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat event on Thursday, October 28th from 5:00 – 6:30 pm at the Agency’s location at 941 Market Street in Piketon. 

This is a no-cost event for the community to attend to enjoy a fun Halloween-themed event with candy and snacks for children and valuable information about the resources and programs available to residents from the CAC and supporting partners. There will be games and activities for children. 
 
“As our community continues to rebuild from last year, we felt that hosting this event would bring some fun and familiarity to the residents we serve by providing a safe space to celebrate the holiday and gain helpful information about the programs and resources available through our agency,” stated Keith Pitts, Executive Director of the Community Action Committee of Pike County. “We wanted the families of Pike County to know that we are here to help in whatever capacity that may be and have fun at the same time.” 

In addition to the Agency Programs, the partnering organizations of the Agency will be in participating in this event to showcase their supportive services as well.
