SIX SEASONS OF SPRING
A wise old farmer once explained there are actually six seasons of spring. Fool’s Spring. Second Winter. Spring of Deception. Third Winter. The Pollening. Actual Spring.  Believe we’ve been in the Spring of Deception for several weeks now… daffodils were blooming and fruit trees leafing out, the skies were blue and temperatures blissfully warm. True New Englanders would never take that brief, joyful reprieve for granted and were quick to realize how foolish we were, when an April snow filled the sky, covering us with eight inches of white, and there we were in down parkas and scarves once again.  Mother Nature was up to her old tricks.  Tho locally, frost dates run until the end of May, hopefully there will be no Third Winter in 2021!
EARTH DAY
Tomorrow, April 22nd is “EARTH DAY”. As of this writing, daffodils have shrugged off last weekend’s snow and the birds are singing. Could 'Actual Spring’ be upon us in time to celebrate Earth Day tomorrow? From your backyard to your favorite trail, enjoy the day (socially distanced, of course) and be proud to be an earthling.

POETRY MONTH QUOTE
Hope Is the Thing With Feathers

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all.

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Sunapee Heritage Alliance, owners of The Livery, put on their hard hats and with golden shovels in hand, held a ceremonial groundbreaking as construction begins to restore the foundation of that 1890 landmark building. Frank Lemay of Milestone Engineering & Construction is leading the construction activity, which was made possible by receipt of a grant of $350,000. from Northern Borders Regional Commission. Construction progress updates will be posted on the website www.thelivery.org. The Board of Directors is looking forward to opening the big green doors in July and welcoming the community in to enjoy music, art exhibits and special events.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK
The fluffy, 160-pound St. Bernard roamed the halls of Congress this week, providing support and lighthearted moments for legislators, staff and other Hill denizens who have seen plenty of heartache in the last few months. Clarence and his handler, Lt. William Gordon, have been on hand in the aftermath of some of the country's worst tragedies, include Sandy Hook, the Las Vegas shootings, and the Boston Marathon bombing. Clarence's latest assignment on the Hill shows there is at least one thing we can agree on in these divided times: There's nothing quite like the comfort and love of a very good dog.
