Virtual Campus Update

Welcome to the fall 2020 semester! We are so excited to have you join us. We know this may be a difficult time for you and your family, but we're here to help you be successful at Grossmont College. This email is the first of several we will send you this semester, with at least two messages per month. If you haven't already, please update your email in WebAdvisor/Self Service.

Here are some resources you may find helpful this fall:

Classes

Most classes will be held online this fall semester, with very few exceptions in the class schedule. Since our physical campus is still closed due to COVID-19, students are not required to purchase a fall 2020 parking permit. Once it is safe to re-open, students and campus visitors will be able to park in any available student parking space. If you enrolled in one of the few courses offered on campus, you will not receive a ticket as long as you do not park in a fire lane, staff parking spaces, disabled placard parking spaces, and timed spaces. This updated notice is valid through January 31, 2021.

To best support your success this fall, we recommend that all students have regular access to the internet and a computer with a web camera.

All classes online will be through Canvas (download free app for iPhone | Android); you should also check your email on file for messages from your instructor(s). To keep track of academic deadlines and essential reminders, we recommend students download the free GradGuru app (iPhone | Android).

Students interested in "crashing" - or adding a course after the start of classes - can do so by emailing the instructor (find them in the employee directory), requesting an add authorization from the instructor, and registering after the instructor authorization in Self Service (watch a "how to" video on YouTube).

Financial Aid
If you haven't already, we hope you will consider applying for an Emergency Aid Grant this fall. Students who qualify can receive up to $500 to cover costs related to COVID-19, such as housing, food, or technology needed to be successful in online coursework.

Virtual Registration Help

If you have questions or need assistance with registration, please connect with our Outreach team. We are just a Zoom session or phone call away and can help you find the answer to your question. Join us on Zoom using Meeting ID 923 0061 6234 (download the free Zoom app for iPhone | Android) or call via phone at 1-669-900-6833.

During the first two weeks of the fall semester, the Outreach team is available to help with registration from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 15 and 22, and from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Fridays, through Aug. 28.

Website
As you may have noticed, we have a new website. We hope it helps you better find the resources you need.

The search function is temporarily disabled (we hope to have it back up next week). At this time, please use the Current Students page. This page provides links to many of the pages you might have visited on our old website, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Class Schedule, Counseling, Library, Mental Health Services, Student Health Services, and Tutoring.

If you've read this far, you now have the tools for success this fall. I encourage you to take advantage of all the services and programs available to help you. Good luck this fall, and thank you for joining the Grossmont College family!
