Dear River Forest residents,
The Illinois General Assembly is providing some needed tax relief. The 1% sales and use tax on retail groceries is now suspended through June 30, 2023. Additionally, now through the end of this year, there is a six-month suspension of the scheduled inflationary increase for the State’s motor fuel tax. There will also be a State sales tax holiday on certain clothing and school-related items beginning Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 14.
We continue to pray for the family and friends affected by the tragic event in Highland Park this past week.
The safety of our residents is a priority. Should you ever encounter suspicious behavior, please call 911 immediately. The Police Department will continue with its heightened patrols in the business district and public parks for your safety and peace of mind.
Sincerely,
|

As approved by the Village Board in the Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Budget this past April, the combined water and sewer rate has increased 6% (.68 cents per 100 cubic feet). The new combined water and sewer rate is $11.89 per 100 cubic feet. The rate increase is based mostly on the City of Chicago rate increases (River Forest water is provided by the City of Chicago and the rates they provide to us is purely a pass through to you), and accounts for future operating and capital costs.

Firefighters will be around town testing and flushing fire hydrants over the next few weeks. Hydrants are flushed annually to remove any sediment in the lines and to ensure that all hydrants are working in the event of a fire. Water discoloration may occur during the hydrant flushing, however this discoloration is harmless. Running water from a fixture in the lowest section of your home until clear will correct the problem. Please avoid doing laundry or dishes until the water runs clear. Due to the unpredictability of emergency calls there is no set schedule for flushing.

Simplest Way to Water Your Lawn
|
Water your lawn as infrequently as possible! Cool season grasses naturally slow down in growth and may go dormant in hot weather. An important decision to make before summer is whether to water lawns consistently as needed throughout the season, or let lawns go dormant as conditions turn warm and dry. Do not rotate back and forth. If you want to conserve water - a precious resource - consider letting grass go dormant in the warmer months. For more information, click here.

Keep Election Signs Out of Landfills
|
Do you have corrugated plastic political signs in your yard? Before tossing campaign signs, please consider saving them for future use. For example, attach a new message to the board and use it to promote a special event, or check with local schools or nonprofit organizations to see if they could be of use. Wire stands might also be recycled for future signs or some other purpose.
