- Out Boulder County and all those in our LGBTQ+ community
- PSC's Off Broadway Preschool

A Word from Andrew... From Jesus to Martin Luther King, Jr. to U2: What Are You Looking For?...
The very first words of Jesus in the Gospel of John are in the form of this question, "What are you looking for?" (John 1: 29-42)
It's one that Jesus invited first century disciples to ponder and it's one for us 21st century disciples to wonder about, too. Said another way: What is it that you seek? What is your innermost longing? What do you want that would truly satisfy you?
It's not an easy question to answer, is it? Perhaps we know at some level that we are searching for something, but we are fairly sure that we haven't found it yet.
I'm curious about how you would answer this in your own life.
Subsets of this question abound: What are you looking for in retirement? What are you looking for in a new job? What are you looking for in a potential spouse? What are you looking for in a church? What are you looking for in the new year? What are you looking for in the future?
Okay, I'll stop with all the questions, but I invite you to reflect and answer that open-ended question, "What are you looking for?"
This weekend, we will explore this question in our Sunday worship gathering, and we'll even have a little help from the Irish band U2's song, "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." (Shhh...don't tell anyone, but your pastor may or may not be singing it with his favorite (Pine Street Church) band this weekend.)
In 1987, U2 as we've come to know them arrived. It was their finest moment. The Joshua Tree was released and songs like "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" was important in their spiritual evolution.
Of course, they got pushback, because some wondered how could people who had found Christ "not know what they were looking for?" U2 was making a more open-ended and less dogmatic approach to faith. Bono calls "I Still Haven't Found..." a gospel song for a restless spirit!
On this Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, we all know what it feels like to have restless spirits due to that spiritual Grand Canyon that exists between Dr. King's 1968 dream and our 2020 social and political nightmare. King prophesied even then that
"a civilization can flounder as readily in the face of moral and spiritual bankruptcy as it can through financial bankruptcy."
Now more than ever we need hope. Here's one thing you can
do about it: Bring your restless spirits and spiritual longings to church this weekend (and invite other restless spirits to join you), and let us together find hope and dwell in the possibilities of our personal and collective discovery to all that we are still looking for!
Love,
Andrew

ANNUAL MEETING AND LUNCHEON
Please plan to join us
Sunday January 26th after our morning worship service for our 2019 Annual Meeting. We will migrate downstairs to the Fellowship Hall share a meal and then celebrate everything we accomplished in 2019!
The business portion of the meeting will include voting on a new slate of officers for our 2020 Leadership Council (The first ever in our newly implemented Governance Model!) as well as voting on a 2020 budget.
The Church will provide a main dish and we ask that folks bring side dishes. So we don't end up with too much of one thing we'll go with last name starting with:
A - I: Salads
J - R: Sides
S - Z: Desserts
Look for the sign up sheet this Sunday during our regular reception time. We'll see you all there! Open to All.

Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering (RMMO)
Honoring the Service of God's Servants
Throughout the month of January, we will be receiving the annual RMMO (Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering). We sometimes refer to this as a Thank You offering....a time for us to remember, celebrate and give thanks for pastors who may have inspired, encouraged, mentored or supported us in times of joy and in times of sorrow.
You'll hear more about this offering each Sunday, but please begin reflecting on what you might contribute to help us reach our goal of $1,000. So far this month you've raise $595. So we're over halfway there!
With gratitude, Heart for Mission Team |
