April 20, 2020
The school district is committed to keeping you updated throughout the COVID-19 closure of Des Moines Public Schools. Today we expanded our student meal sites to 50 locations around Des Moines. The week three student workbooks were handed out today but, if you didn't make it to a meal site, they are available on our web site. And, a reminder that computer distribution to elementary and middle school students is this Wednesday and Thursday.
COVID-19 CLOSURE UPDATES, NEWS AND REMINDERS
NEW MEAL SITES BEGAN TODAY
DMPS went from 22 to 50 sites for free student meals starting today. We stopped by several elementary schools on their first day of being a meal site, and share some photos on our Flickr page.

Our meals sites are at all ten middle schools, most elementary schools, North High, and several auxiliary locations. Rain or shine, we will be there each weekday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM to serve our kids. Click here to see a list of the meal sites. Be sure to see the map on this web page to find the site most convenient for you.

Finally, thanks to contributions from the community, DMPS has been able to add healthy snacks for children to eat during the stretch between lunch and breakfast the following day. If you would like to contribute to this effort, just click the green bar below.
WEEK THREE STUDENT WORKBOOKS AVAILABLE ONLINE
In addition to providing meals at 50 locations around Des Moines today, we also handed out our third week of workbooks for students in grades PK-8. If you didn't get to a meal site today, no problem. The workbooks are all available on our DMPS@HOME web page. Just click here to download.

A big change in how we distribute the student workbooks happens next week. Rather than picking them up at meal sites, they will be mailed to each student household according to grade level. This is for students in grades PK-8. We'll have more information to share about this change, which will hopefully make it more convenient for families. The workbooks will also continue to be available online at DMPS@HOME.
REMINDER: ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL COMPUTERS
Distribution of computers to elementary and middle school students will take place this Wednesday and Thursday. If you indicated on recent surveys that you needed a device, you should have been contacted by your child's school by now with the day and time for pickup. By the end of this week nearly 21,000 laptops will have been provided to DMPS students as we complete the school year through distance learning.
THANK YOU FAREWAY, OFFICE DEPORT FOR YOUR SUPPORT
We appreciate the community support of our students and schools during this unusual time. Fareway Stores  provided plastic bags for our meal sites and extra reusable bags for our computer distributions, while Office Depot  loaded up one of our vans with a donation of school supplies. Thank you!
