EMPLOYMENT LAW UNIFORMITY ACT GOES INTO EFFECT
On April 15th, the Ohio Chamber's longstanding Employment Law Uniformity Act took effect. This new law provides employers with much needed relief from Ohio's previous workplace discrimination law that was overly burdensome and exposed employers across the state to prolonged liability. Major provisions of Ohio's new law include:
- A two year statute of limitation for workplace discrimination actions
- A requirement that all workplace discrimination claims start at the Ohio Civil Rights Commission
- An affirmative defense employers can assert in hostile work environment actions
- A modified age discrimination statute that aligns its remedies and procedures with all other protected classes.
