Take the TAC Sustainability Challenge 2021!
Sustainability Challenge 2021 Patch

Join our mission to set the gold standard in Scouting for efforts to improve human impacts upon the planet.
  • Unit Challenge (Troops, Packs, Crews and Ships)
  • Cub Challenge (Cub Scouts)
  • Scout and Adult Challenge (Scouts BSA youth, and all adults)
  • Venturer / Sea Scout / Explorer Challenge
The Sustainability Challenge 2021 is a new TAC program of individual and group activities. We aim for every TAC youth and adult to learn about the planetary emergency, think about what you should do, change your ways, and become an advocate for the planet. Requirements are adaptable for your location, achievable during COVID-19 restrictions, and flexible for your personal goals.

See the new TAC Sustainability webpage, www.tac-bsa.org/Sustainability for full requirements, and downloadable workbooks with explanations, links, recommendations, and tracking sheets. We will have league tables for participating units, and will record our achievements as a council for all to see. Earn a great limited-edition patch!

Change in Scoutbook Effective March 1, 2021

Effective March 1, 2021, Scoutbook's leader invite process will perform a check for a BSA issued Member ID and active BSA registration when being invited to connect with the unit roster. Prior to March 1, unit leaders should check their rosters in Member Manager at www.my.scouting.org  to ensure all adult leaders listed in Scoutbook are also registered on the official roster or otherwise with the BSA.

If your unit's charter is not posted until after March 1.. due to unresolved paperwork issues your charter will expire. Any registered leader position will be expired and will expire in Scoutbook as well, until the charter is posted. Once the charter is posted all Scoutbook connections will resume.

Hazardous Weather Training required for all BSA Direct Contact Leaders

If you think you are fully trained, but records show you are not, it might be because you need to take or retake Hazardous Weather Training.

Introduced in 2009, Hazardous Weather Training was originally a unit requirement. For a Tour Plan to be valid there had to be at least one adult on the Tour Plan who had completed Hazardous Weather Training.

In 2018,Boy Scouts of America made the NEW Hazardous Weather Training mandatory for position-specific training for all direct contact leaders, which includes:
  • Cub Scouting (Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leader, Assistant Den Leader)
  • Scouts BSA (Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster)
  • Venturing (Crew Advisor and Associate Advisor)
  • Sea Scouts BSA (all Adult Leaders)
  • Exploring (Advisor and Associate Advisor)
The training online course code is: SCO_800 and is available through the BSA Learn Center at www.my.scouting.org  Similar to Youth Protection Training, the Hazardous Weather training certificate is valid for two years and will not show you as  fully trained if your certificate lapses.

Inaugural Virtual Order of the Arrow Ordeal

With COVID-19 precluding any in-person event since March 2020, the Black Eagle Lodge hosted its inaugural virtual Ordeal Induction the weekend of Janaury 29th for those who had been elected nearly a year ago but never had the opportunity to attend an Ordeal weekend.

From the available pool of 150+ Scouts and Scouters, 65 new Brothers participated were inducted. While all involved would have preferred a weekend of service together, Scouts and Scouters in Bahrain, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Washington, and Louisiana all were able to participate through this unique event.

Representing the broad spectrum of weather in TAC, Scouts spending the night out under the stars had to contend with rain, snow, and even a sandstorm. The next day was spent performing several hours of community service in their neighborhoods before participating in the online closing ceremonies. Please join us in welcoming our newest Brothers in our Order!
