Looking at the Court Decision Which Led to the Shuttering of Locast’s Retransmission of Local TV on the Internet

In recent weeks, decisions of a U.S. District Court judge in the Southern District of New York led to the suspension of service by the Internet streaming company Locast, which built its business on streaming local television stations generally without obtaining the consent of TV stations or the copyright holders in the programs they broadcast. FCC Extends Regulatory Fee Deadline to this Monday
|
Ithe FCC just released a Public Notice extending the deadline to submit annual regulatory fees. These fees had been due today. The extension now allows for their timely submission until this Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. MAB Washington Counsel David Oxenford said he has been told that there have been some glitches in the system, so any stations that have not already filed should do so immediately to make sure that they can meet this new deadline and resolve any filing problems that they may have. There is a 25% penalty for late fees.

Jeanna Trotman Joins WXYZ-TV

Jeanna Trotman has joined WXYZ-TV (Detroit) as weekend sports anchor. She is also a sports reporter during the week, working in collaboration with Sports Director Brad Galli. Trotman, once a WXYZ intern, began her television career in 2014 at KAAL, the ABC affiliate in Rochester, Minnesota where she served as Sports Director. Read More

WCSX Unveils Michigan’s Alice Cooper Court

On September 23, WCSX-FM (Detroit) Morning Personality Big Jim O’Brien from Big Jim’s House joined Motor City rock Legend Alice Cooper to unveil Alice Cooper Court at Eloise Asylum in Westland, Michigan. “Alice Cooper Court” is the third street name created by WCSX honoring Motor City rock icons. Star Country 106.7 Signs On in Northern Michigan
|
Following its acquisition by MacDonald Garber Broadcasting, WSRT-FM (Gaylord) has returned to the air as "Star Country 106.7." The new format launched September 17 following a week of stunting including Christmas music and Classic Rock songs. According to press reports, the 100kw FM is focusing on country hits of the 80s through early 2000s. Read More

Former WDIV-TV (Detroit) reporter Kevin Dietz, who has been hosting the 9 a.m. to noon slot on WJR-AM (Detroit) since June 1, has been named permanent host for the time slot. He replaces longtime WJR personality Frank Beckmann, who retired in March. Read More
