Spring is on the Horizon!

The annual drawdown at Indian Lake serves a very important purpose. It is a tool to help manage nonnative invasive plants without chemicals. The drawdown has been in place since the 1980's and has been a very effective tool for this purpose.

This week, the City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks will close the gates so that the lake can refill.  If your property abuts the lake, please take the time to pick up any trash or debris along the waterline before the water rises.

Seasoned Anglers and Fishing Enthusiasts... We need your help!I

The City of Worcester Lakes and Ponds Division, with support from local watershed partners, is focused on identifying water quality challenges that are directly impacting local fisheries.

As part of this effort, it's important to gather as much local knowledge as possible so that management solutions can be evaluated.

We have developed an Angler Survey which will be available through May 1, 2020 for you to share your experiences fishing Worcester's waterways. Fishing enthusiasts of all levels are encouraged to participate in the survey which incorporates a mix of multiple choice and open ended opportunities for input and suggestions. Please complete the survey and encourage others to participate.

Thank you in advance for helping us continue to protect, preserve and improve our waterways!

Shore Drive Alignment Project Underway

Please be aware that the Shore Drive alignment project has begun. The project, which will align Shore Drive with Drummond Avenue and include the installation of a traffic signal, is a state project that has been on the list for consideration for about 20 years. The project entered the planning phase in conjunction with the City of Worcester and affected property owners about 5 years ago. The initial stages will be focused on moving utilities.

Project completion is currently estimated as November 2020.

New England Sky Pix Produces Amazing Drone Footage of
Indian Lake!

A rather blah January took an incredible turn when we connected with Ron Scott of New England Sky Pix! Ron volunteered his time and energy to take some INCREDIBLE footage of Indian Lake, Little Indian and Sears Island! Please check out his amazing work on our Facebook Page  Indian Lake Facebook or Ron's page at  New England Sky Pix Facebook.
Our Neighborhood: Sears Island Lighthouse

We were recently contacted by a historian from  Lighthouse Digest Magazine in Maine looking for historical information on the lighthouse on Sears Island. Specifically, they found a media photo from September 13th, 1931 but don't have the accompanying article. We have learned that it was likely built by Kampen Lodge No. 15 National Order of Good Templars which owned the property from August 30, 1920 until 1985.

Ideally, we are trying to locate the article that originally accompanied this photo. There are some articles and minutes that may have additional information but sorting through these is time consuming as they are written in Swedish.

If you have any knowledge of where the original article was published or perhaps know how to read Swedish, please contact the ILWA at  [email protected].
