"An Existential Date"
(A Demitasse Movie)

“Laughter without a tinge of philosophy is but a sneeze of humor. Genuine humor is replete with wisdom”
— Mark Twain

The one- year anniversary of COVID is a dismal reminder of how weary and disillusioned we have become as a nation, and how much we have lost and taken for granted. The performing arts is no exception, as our theaters have gone dark to curb the pandemic. And, like most businesses we had to adapt ourselves to producing virtual performances.

With this said, over this past summer I challenged myself to write my first screenplay and comedy, An Existential Date, with much prodding from the troupe. In the belief that comedy is universal and can bring some unity in our divided times. And support the notion that philosophy and laughter is good medicine for the soul. And yes, even professors and playwrights have a sense of humor, as you will see when the movie is released later this.

"Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine"
— Lord Byron

The movie is an existential comedy complete with gallows humor, about two aging college philosophy professors meeting for their first date at the local existential café. The movie debunks the myth of the stoic persona of professors, while bringing to light, that the youth do not have a monopoly on romance. And, philosophical conversations can be seductive as well as a real aphrodisiac!
An Existential Date” was shot on location at The Wolf and Warrior Brewing Company located in White Plains, N.Y. The cast consists of Rob Ansbro, playing the part of Camu; Donna L. White as Neisky, Michelle Osojnak as the waitress. Musical score was written and performed by our Musical Director, Drew Caico, Digital graphics by our Digital Director Eric Sholz, and Chris Casburi as cinematographer and co-director.

“God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh”
— Voltaire
