2020 is in full swing at Davidson County Community College. This new year and new decade bring an exciting opportunity to build upon key initiatives that impact not only our students and campus, but also the wider community. DCCC remains dedicated to exploring new ways to develop minds, inspire imaginations, and strengthen community. The new year provides opportunities to reflect, plan, and grow.

Meet Maddie Myers, 2014 graduate of DCCC and owner of Maddie Cakes bakery located in Bermuda Run, NC. The associate degree she earned led her on a path to opening and operating her own successful business. As a proud DCCC graduate, Maddie reflects on her experience in this new alumni Spotlight.

Visit Scotland with DCCC in October
Explore the wonders of Scotland in this community travel experience from DCCC! The trip will take place October 9-18, 2020. Visit the sites, sounds, and adventures of Loch Ness, St. Andrews, and Edinburgh Castle in addition to the Isle of Skye and the Orkney Islands during this 10-day trip. In addition to having a life-changing experience with fellow community members, travelers also benefit by supporting future generations of DCCC students as they explore the world.

Art Show Postcard
Spring Art Show Opens Jan. 28
You're invited to join DCCC for the opening reception of the Spring 2020 art show "Pure Expression." The event celebrates the showcasing of art from eight North Carolina artists. The 76 pieces that will be on display for the spring semester include oil, acrylic, pottery, watercolor and photography.

The opening reception is Tuesday, January 28 from 4 - 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Mendenhall Building, located on the Davidson Campus.
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
National Survey to be Hosted on Campus
We are honored to once again host a federally-funded initiative on our campus that will help assess the health and nutritional status of our community and influence health policy nationwide. In coordination with local health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) will take place during the months of February and March, with a mobile examination center set up on the Davidson Campus as part of this initiative. Over 600 Davidson County residents will be asked to participate. We are always excited to welcome local residents and visitors to our campus.

EMS students
New EMT certification course available for Davie High students

Nine Davie High School seniors will soon enter a new classroom with the same basic objective. They want to learn how to save lives. A new Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course will begin this spring through Davie High School and Davidson County Community College. It will allow students to simultaneously earn both high school and college credit.

DCCC scores among highest in state for performance measures

Every year, the North Carolina Community Colleges system reports on how successful each of its 58 community colleges performed over an academic year. In the recent posting of this annual report, Davidson County Community College ranked in the top five colleges in the state across seven of the report’s key performance measures.
