Weekly Update
A Message from Principal Simpson

Dear Parents,
I can't believe this is the last 2021-22 school year newsletter! Everyone has been sharing their summer plans, and it sounds like it's going to be a wonderful and busy couple of months for BFA families.
We had some very exciting news earlier this week. The Best of Colorado will be announcing that they chose our very own LEIGH SAVOY as the Top Director for the Best of Colorado Afterschool Award!! BFA families nominated her for this award, and she is so deserving of this honor. Mrs. Savoy works tirelessly to run a great BASE and Summer Camp program for our kids. We are excited to celebrate this award with her during the presentation at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at BFA. All are welcome to attend.
The last days of school are always bittersweet to me. While I look forward to summer like everyone else does, I will miss interacting with your students and our staff every day. I'm excited to celebrate our eighth graders graduating tonight, but I will miss seeing thier smiling faces in the hallways next year. I know they will accomplish great things in high school and beyond! We have several families leaving us this year because their youngest student is graduating. We will miss each of you. Please keep in touch and let us know how your families are doing—you’ll always be part of the BFA community!
I hope everyone has a beautiful summer full of popsicles, running through sprinklers and backyard BBQs.
Mrs. Simpson

If you would like to apply for free or reduced lunches, please click here.
Next school year, the prices for lunch at BFA are as follows:
- Meal: $3.75
- Double: $2.50
- Milk: $1.00

Thank you everyone who has served on, volunteered for and supported the PTO this year! It has been another great year with many memorable events.
Each year, with the generous donations from our BFA community and our annual sponsors, the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) provides the school with tools, materials, and financial support for important programs, including:
- Lexia and HelpCounter software
- Accelerated Reader incentives
- Directory On Tap
- Elementary and middle school planners
- Teacher, staff, and volunteer appreciation
- Community events such as Franklin Fest, Trunk or Treat, the Sweetheart Ball and the Mother/Son event
Additional PTO purchases planned with funds from this year include:
- $60,000 from the Direct Giving Campaign given to the school for playground enhancements and a new entrance sign;
- $6,000 in various teacher giveback purchases related to the Direct Giving Campaign; and
- An all staff year-end luncheon.
Thanks to the generosity of the BFA community, this school year we received sponsorship donations totaling approximately $15,500 and Direct Giving Campaign income of $60,000. After the above expenses, the balance of the fundraising monies was spent on various PTO programs and school services throughout the year. Any remaining funds will roll over to next year's PTO budget.
Thank you again for your unwavering support!

Thank You Volunteers - You're Invited to Private Event at Pirates Cove! |
Thank you to all the families who have volunteered this year. We sincerely appreciate all that you do for BFA! To show our thanks, the PTO is hosting a volunteer appreciation event--an evening at Pirates Cove--from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 11. All BFA families who have met and recorded their family's volunteer quota (30 hours per family or 15 per single-parent household) will be rewarded with FREE admission for their immediate family to Pirate's Cove. The PTO has rented out the park for the evening of our event, so it will be a private BFA-only event. We hope to see all of our dedicated volunteers there!
Please log your volunteer hours as soon as possible. The deadline for logging hours is May 31. We love to recognize our volunteers so please don’t let your hours go unaccounted. Volunteer hours recorded by May 31 will not only go towards your Pirates Cove admission, but if you earn 50, 75 or 100 volunteer hours, you will be awarded special BFA logo'd items (distributed at Pirate's Cove check-in) to show our appreciation for going above and beyond!
Please note: No additional tickets will be sold at the door. This is an event ONLY for those families who have met and recorded their volunteer hours in Help Counter by midnight Tuesday, May 31. No exceptions will be made.

Middle School Summer Soccer Opportunities |
Attention all middle school (upcoming 6-8 grade) students interested in playing some soccer. We have two amazing opportunities for soccer enthusiasts this summer:
Kick Arounds will be Tuesday mornings all summer long from 9-10:15 a.m. We will strictly play a 75 minute game with breaks only if needed. Teams will be decided each week depending on attendance. Kick arounds are coed and an excellent way to have fun, get out of the house, and practice your soccer with friends. Please use the 2022 Kick Arounds link to sign up if you are interested.
Soccer Camp will be July 25-28. Camp will focus on mastering key skills, and using individual ability in 1v1, 1v2, 2v2, 2v3 small group settings essential for the building blocks of the full field game. The camp will be held from 9 - 11:30 a.m. July 25-28 on the BFA turf. Several of our high school varsity soccer players will be helping with our camp, and hopefully even some of our previous BFA players.
