Church Scam Alert

Dear Members and Friends,

I have become aware of an up-tick in scams circulating among UU congregations throughout the country regarding requests for money from the minister. If you receive such a request please notify the church immediately. I do not, and have not, made such appeals. So, please be on alert and inform us of any suspicious activity you might encounter via e-mail from me, the church, or any representative of the church.

Thank you,

Rev. Ed Brock

The Search Is On

On January 2nd we received the first names of ministerial candidates that are interested in our settled minister position at UUCH. Your Ministerial Search Committee set right to work reviewing all the candidates' records, resumes, websites and associated materials. We are meticulously examining their sermon content, videos of their worship services, and their written biographies. Our goal is to assess how these candidates match with the goals and needs of UUCH. Once that has been determined, we will start contacting each of the candidates from whom we wish to learn more. During the next two or three weeks, we will be conducting on-line video interviews with that select set to determine which ones we wish to bring for a pre-candidate interviews in February and March.

We will keep you posted as the process moves forward, and as always, be sure to contact us if you have any questions.

Vegetarian/Vegan Meeting & Potluck

The Huntsville Plant-Based Living & Discussion Group is grateful to UUCH for its kind invitation to hold their potluck meetings in the Fellowship Hall on the second Saturday of each month!

The group's first meeting and potluck will be Saturday, January 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

All UUCH members and friends are invited to come and enjoy wonderful food, great fellowship, and information about the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle. Come and bring your friends!

First-timers are not expected to bring anything... there is always plenty of food for all! (Though the food will not contain meat of any type, YOU do not need to be vegetarian or vegan to attend.)

We hope to see you on Saturday, January 11!

 Office Hours Update

Between January 3 - January 15, the UUCH office will be run virtually (with the exception of Mondays, from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., when volunteer Dan McKitrick will be in the office to assist).  This is to allow Amanda Schuber, Office Administrator, to attend classes at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA.  Email and phone calls will still be answered daily during this time.

As you may know, Amanda will be starting an internship with the UU Church of Chattanooga on January 15. Beginning at that time, the office will be open as follows:
  • Mondays - 8:00 a.m - 2:00 p.m. (Dan)
  • Wednesdays - 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Amanda)
  • Fridays - 1:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (Amanda)
The rest of the week, the email and phone calls will be handled remotely on a daily basis.

We appreciate your patience as we make adjustments, and will keep you informed as we add volunteers to staff the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Pelvic Floor: Health and Awareness
Class Times Announced

The pelvic floor is a part of your body you may not give a lot of thought to until you experience a problem related to it, such as incontinence or lower back pain.

The pelvic floor is involved in many basic life functions as varied as digestion, elimination, reproduction, breathing, and balance. A healthy functioning pelvic floor promotes greater health in all of these areas. The pelvic floor musculature works in a coordinated system of muscles to support the hips and lower back.

Join us for a Saturday morning class focused on improving the health of your pelvic floor. We will meet in the Adult RE Room for a four-week series, from 10-11 a.m. starting January 11.

You will receive the most benefit if you can come to all classes, but learning is never wasted if you can only make a few classes. For more information,  please contact Sally Locklear  via email  or phone (512-657-6169).

Share the Plate

During December and January, we will share the Sunday offering with First Stop, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation established in 2001 to reduce the number of homeless persons in Huntsville and Madison County by forming relationships of trust, providing basic needs, and offering guidance toward stable, independent living in housing.
