"Are you there, God? It's me Parent" - Ever feel this way? Parenting in our world today is not for the faint of heart. Every family is unique, but we all face common struggles. One way we can reduce our stress is to share the burden we may be carrying around - with our friends and our God. Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is in the process of forming a parent support group. Our goal is to create a safe space where we can connect, listen, vent, pray, provide support and share resources. Join us for our inaugural gathering! We look forward to hearing your ideas for making this group meaningful in your life. Good Shepherd Parent Group this

Altar Flower Program -
Good Shepherd's long time florist, Stacy Mezzanotte, died unexpectedly January 6, 2020 after an illness. Stacy and her family continued to provide arrangements through January 5. Consequently the flower program is suspended at this time. Parishioners who have signed up and paid for flowers in 2020 will have their payments credited to their 2020 pledge unless the office is instructed otherwise.
The
Church Office will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
The Vestry Nominating Committee
is pleased to announce the
Vestry candidates for 2020-2023: Lynnette Clark, Nina Scott, and Vanessa Sivali. The Senior Warden candidate for 2020-2022 is Deena Groshong. Our Annual Meeting will take place on Sunday, February 2 in the Parish Hall following one service at 9:30 am. The list of members eligible to vote at the 2020 annual meeting is posted on the bulletin board outside of the
copier room. Questions please see Father David.

ONGOING
Saint Luke Food Pantry
-
It is good to see the ongoing parish support for alleviating hunger and food insecurity in our area by our contributions of staples to Saint Luke Food Pantry. Recipients are referred through Social Services Agencies. Volunteers at the food pantry prepare the bags based on need and size of family, including single recipients. They do receive some fresh produce and fruit from other contributors. Our main focus, per their request, is to help keep the shelves stocked with a variety of nutritious staples, which includes proteins (canned chicken and tuna and bags/cans of black, kidney, and garbanzo beans); canned vegetables and fruit; pasta and sauce (together or separately); bags of rice; peanut butter and tubes of jelly; chili and hearty soups; and nutritious cereals (hot or cold). Condiments are also welcomed as are Latino-style staples. Most of us engage in regular grocery shopping, which makes this form of outreach an easy part of our routines. Weekly sales are worth investigating to look for items that we would be purchasing anyway for the food pantry. If you would like to learn how to volunteer, contact Lynn Wood.
Equal Exchange Products
- Darker days, up and down temperatures, and various forms of precipitation mark this January. What better to raise your spirits than a cup of coffee or decaf or cocoa and a piece or two or three of tasty chocolate anywhere from milk chocolate to 92%. Guilt can be assuaged by cooking with Palestinian olive oil, preparing a pot of nutritious whole wheat Maftoul couscous, and eating a Medjool date or two. Each purchase also supports small farmers who work through cooperatives to gain financial independence. Look for the Equal Exchange table in the narthex or contact Lynn Wood. Equal Exchange products are sold at cost at Good Shepherd as a delicious form of social justice.
Planting Seeds
- It is never too late to pledge. Thank you once again to all who have pledged for 2020. Pledges can be made at any time.
While doing your online shopping go to smile.amazon to generate a donation for Good Shepherd!
You can do this throughout the year when you place an Amazon order.
