     This Request for Proposals (RFP) is issued by the Southwest Alabama Partnership for Training and Employment (SWAPTE) in order to procure the services 
of a qualified accounting firm to conduct an organization-wide financial and compliance audit of the Local Workforce Development Area's programs, projects, expenditures and other related activities pursuant to the Statewide Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

Four ways to jumpstart your job search if laid 
off   due to the coronavirus outbreak

     Going out to dinner, hanging out at your local coffee house, holding down jobs and other normalcies of life have been replaced with notices of school and business closings to combat the spread of the coronavirus. 
 
     However, in the midst of the chaos, life must go on. Even though there's an uncertainty about the next step, things will slowly get back to normal at some point. If you were recently laid off as a result of the coronavirus, consider the following:

 

1. Know your options regarding unemployment benefits and resources available for dislocated workers. To file a claim online, visit www.labor.alabama.gov or call 866-234-5382.

 call your nearest Alabama Career Center.

Check with your local financial institutions if you're experiencing hardship meeting your financial obligations (mortgage, car payments, etc.) due to the layoff.


 

2: Skill build. Use your down time to work on a resume, brush up on your computer skills and consider training for a new career.  Visit www.swapte.org (click here) to learn about training opportunities under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).  You could be eligible to train for high-wage, high-growth careers in maritime, aviation, healthcare, construction, manufacturing, information technology and other industries in two years or less. 3: Know who's hiring.  Keep abreast of the latest job openings. For example, the hospitality industry may be stifled due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, shipping and delivery companies, such as Amazon have seen an uptick in business. Walmart and fast food restaurants such as Dominos need workers to keep up with the demand. 


 

4: Stay positive. Spending time with family, seek spiritual guidance, read a book and help others. Focusing on the negative is counterproductive. You may have to shelter in place, but at least you have power, water and the internet to stay connected. William Arruda's article, "9 Ways To Stay Positive During the Coronavirus Pandemic"  suggests focusing on the positive is essential to keep you energized during these uncertain times. 



SWAPTE temporarily halts enrollment 
in training programs
 
Mobile, AL.- Southwest Alabama Partnership for Training and Employment (SWAPTE)  temporarily halts enrollment in training and employment programs due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). "Our priority is the well-being of job seekers, staff, training providers and the businesses we serve," states Sydney Raine, SWAPTE president. This halt in enrollments will be in effect until further notice. 
 
General information regarding training programs can be found by visiting  www.swapte.org or click here . Also, staff will be available by phone and email to answer questions about training programs as well as service their clients. 
 
SWAPTE is a regional partnership of business, education, labor and community leaders providing access to services in workforce training and employment. SWAPTE serves Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, Washington and Wilcox counties.

Alabama Career Center Locations Will Close to the Public; Services Still Available by Phone or Email



MONTGOMERY - Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington announced today that beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, all of Alabama's 51 Career Centers will close to the public in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This closure will be in effect until further notice. 

Alabamians in need of Career Center services will still be able to receive them via telephone calls with their local staff, or through email correspondence.  Additionally, job search services and many other resources are available for self-service at www.joblink.alabama.gov, Alabama's free online jobs database. 

"We are taking this action in order to protect our employees and limit exposure to our customers," said Washington. "We will continue to provide services to our jobseekers and employers in the best way we can."

Please note that Career Centers are NOT "unemployment offices." There are no "unemployment offices" in Alabama. The only ways to file an unemployment compensation claim are by calling 1-866-234-5382 or by visiting www.labor.alabama.gov. Online filing is strongly encouraged.

The ADOL Central Office in Montgomery will also be closed to the public until further notice.
