May was Mental Health Awareness Month
|
Yesterday, on the last day of the month, the White House released " FACT SHEET: Biden-Harris Administration Highlights Strategy to Address the National Mental Health Crisis." The opening sentence of the release notes that the mental health issues in our country impact "people of all ages." Additionally, the statement specifically refers to the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Advisory Council, explaining that the work of this group will be considered as part of a National Caregiving Strategy that will be submitted to Congress.

Webinar: Pursuing the Full-Service Community Schools Federal Grant and Other Funding to Braid, Blend, and Sustain Funding for Community Schools
|

On Friday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. ET, the Coalition for Community Schools and the Institute for Educational Leadership are hosting a webinar to identify key federal, state, and local funding sources that can be leveraged for Community Schools and to discuss how to approach a process of blending and braiding this funding to help sustain it. Hear from speakers from the U.S. Department of Education on the Full-Service Community Schools grant, which is opening an application in a few weeks, as well as leaders from the University of Pennsylvania’s Netter Center for Community Partnerships. Anyone who is interested in learning how to start and sustain funding for Community Schools is welcome to attend. Learn more and register to attend.

The Grandfamilies & Kinship Families: Strengths and Challenges Fact Sheet is now available. An updated version of a longstanding resource put forth by Generations United and previously supported by The Brookdale Foundation, this document is designed to serve as a general resource for anyone who is interested in learning more about grandfamilies and kinship families. The end of the document contains links to additional resources. A Spanish-language version is coming soon!

Join the Shared Site Learning Network

With the support of The Eisner Foundation, Generations United's Shared Site Learning Network is bringing together practitioners who are interested in connecting with others about intergenerational shared sites. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. ET. We will explore strategies for evaluating your intergenerational programs and feature presentations by Dr. Shannon Jarrott, The Ohio State University College of Social Work, and Lois Peach, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Bristol.

Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities
|
|
Power of Youth Challenge: Serve This Summer Grants are available to young people who are currently residing in the United States and between the ages of 13 and 19 years old. The grants support service projects that are youth-led and respond to an identified need in your community. Projects should not be overtly political in nature and/or relate to a specific political party. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, and early applications were due by May 31. The Lewis Prize for Music has opened its 2023 Accelerator Awards application. Organizations that empower youth through music in after-school and out-of-school settings are encouraged to apply. The deadline is June 3, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. PT. Learn more.
The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in the Department of Justice is offering a grant called Reducing Risk for Girls in the Juvenile Justice System. It provides funding for communities to support girls who are involved in the juvenile justice system. There are two categories of funding available under this solicitation: (1) project sites and (2) training and technical assistance.

The Administration for Community Living in the Department of Health and Human Services is offering State Program Enhancement Grants to support approaches that build on advancements made under previous Lifespan Respite Care Program grants. Applications are due by June 14, 2022. Learn more.
The Administration for Community Living in the Department of Health and Human Services is also offering grants to new states and states re-establishing their core respite infrastructures. Applications are due by June 17, 2022. Learn more.
The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health in the Department of Health and Human Services is offering a grant called Demonstrating Effective Policies to Promote Black Youth Mental Health. Applications are due by June 22, 2022. Learn more.
The Maternity Group Home program offers support to provide safe, stable, and appropriate shelter for pregnant or parenting youth. The focus is on youth ages 16 to under 22 and their dependent children for 18 months and, under extenuating circumstances, up to 21 months. Service providers must accommodate for the needs and safety of the dependent children, including facility safety standards for infants and children on the premises. Supported group homes may provide services including, but not limited to, parenting skills, child development, family budgeting, and health and nutrition education. The Tepa Native American Scholarship Fund was established to build personal and lasting relationships with students who will become the future leaders in Native American communities and possibly with the Tepa Companies, which are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians. The National Endowment for the Arts is accepting applications for Grants for Arts Projects and Our Town. The Grants for Arts Projects program supports public engagement with, and access to, various forms of art across the nation, the creation of art, learning in the arts at all stages of life, and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life. Our Town supports activities that integrate arts, culture, and design into local efforts that strengthen communities. The application deadline for Grants for Arts Projects is July 7, 2022. Community Care Corps is a national program that works to increase the number of volunteer programs available at the local level to provide non-medical care to older adults, persons with disabilities, and family caregivers. Community Care Corps has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for innovative local models in which volunteers assist family caregivers or directly assist older adults or adults with disabilities with non-medical care to maintain their independence. The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) and the Office of Minority Health (OMH) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have released a funding opportunity called Community-Driven Approaches to Address Factors Contributing to Structural Racism in Public Health.
