" The Power of Not-Me "
Lent 1: "The Power of Not-Me"
In the gospel lesson for the first Sunday in Lent,   Matthew 4:1-11  - t he tempter offers Jesus the chance to see himself as self-sufficient, dominant, and selfish. Jesus asserts his true identity as one of many in God’s care. Then he goes further and tells the tempter that his true strength comes in the service of God. Jesus is led into the wilderness by the Spirit – to be tempted. We are all on a similar journey of self-discovery, and we will all be tempted to think of ourselves as independently discovering our identity in isolation. Christ’s example here shows us that our true identity comes from being part of something bigger than our individual selves.

Join us for Breakfast and deep conversation:
How is your identity formed by the circles in which you participate?

Please bring something to share!
Prayer for the First Sunday of Lent:
We pray to the One God of the many: Grant us the courage to intervene when we sense injustice. May we speak generosity into scarcity and use the power of our presence only for those who cannot speak for themselves. Remind us of the privilege it is to know who we are and our place in the order of your creation. Amen.
