Dear Delone Catholic Families,
Friday will be another Freedom Friday dress down day. Please share this information with your student(s) and have them follow the dress down day guidelines in the School Handbook. We appreciate the students' and parents' commitment to performing the daily screening.
Catholic Schools Week
Sunday is the start of Catholic Schools Week. This is a week that we celebrate our uniqueness as well as the different communities that make up our Catholic school family. Here are a few of my personal favorite reasons that I love Catholic schools:
- We integrate faith with all our academic subjects and into our students' everyday lives;
- We teach and promote Catholic virtues and values which makes our graduates prepared to lead, prepared to serve and prepared for life;
- We encourage encourage prayer which creates a school environtment that is safe, welcoming and supportive for students;
- We have high graduation and college attendance rates; and
- We have extremely dedicated teachers, staff and administrators.
Our Spiritual Life Director and teacher volunteers have created a number of special events, treats and collections for the upcoming week. An agenda for the week is included in this Squire Wire. Please feel free to make a donation in support of some of our special causes.
As part of Catholic Schools Week, we will celebrate Mass as a school on Thursday, Feb. 4. This will be on an Activities B-Day Schedule. Please make sure your student arrives on time that day.
Report Cards
All second quarter grades are due on Monday, Feb. 1. Report cards will be emailed on Thursday, Feb. 4.
A Special Thank You
The theme for our Catholic Schools Week activities is "Compassion is Essential." Truer words have not been spoken! Compassion is what I see daily, brimming from our Delone Catholic community. I see compassion in the way our teachers help each other with new technologies to support virtual learning. I see compassion in how our teachers are working with students who may be struggling with the impact the pandemic is having on their live. I see compassion in the way our parents help us to keep our school community safe with open lines of communication. I see compassion from our coaches and extra curricular moderators as they find creative ways to keep our students engaged in the activities they love. And I see compassion from our students, as they offer a smile or kind, encouraging words to each other throughout the day.
I am thankful that I have spent the majority of my professional and personal life involved in Catholic schools and most importantly with Delone Catholic. I will be saying a special prayer this week for all of you.

Delone Catholic Celebrates Catholic School Week |

The Golden Apple Award is given to six teachers and one principal in the Diocese of Harrisburg. The program has been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic Schools. The Diocese of Harrisburg announced that the Donahue Family Foundation will again sponsor the 16th Golden Apple Awards Program.
Awardees must be a practicing Catholic, a full time teacher and must have completed a minimum of six full years in the elementary or secondary school at which they currently employed. They must have a Pennsylvania Instructional II certificate and the appropriate catechetical certification. A secondary teacher applicant must be nominated by a student or parent. The deadline for nominations is March 12.

Attention Students: Final Call for Yearbook Photos |

Senior Baby Pictures Wanted: Thanks to all seniors who have sent in their baby pictures to be included in the yearbook--we've received some great ones so far. If any senior still wishes to submit a baby picture, the deadline for submissions is Friday, Jan. 29. You can email a digital version to Mr. Fournie at jfournie@delonecatholic.org, or you can submit a physical copy. Remember to put your name on the physical copy so we can return it to you as soon as possible.
Adventure Pictures Wanted: Calling all adventurous Squires and Squirettes: the yearbook will be highlighting adventurous activities students and faculty participate in outside of school as part of our theme "Adventure Awaits." If you participate in any adventurous activities outside of school, please send photos to Mr. Fournie at jfournie@delonecatholic.org or Mrs. Gross in the marketing department at lgross@delonecatholic.org. Deadline for submissions is Friday, Jan. 29.

High School Placement Test Registration - Last Test Date Feb. 13 |
|
Delone Catholic desires a smooth and strong transition from grade school to high school for every student. To help ensure incoming freshmen are placed in the courses where they can be most successful, we require each student to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT). The test covers English, science and math.
Testing will take place at Delone Catholic HS in the school cafeteria. Arrival time is 8:30-8:45 a.m. Testing begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. Students are asked to bring #2 pencils and a pen. Cell phones need to powered off and put away during testing. Snacks and drinks will be available during the breaks. Students will be dismissed by 1:15 p.m.
The High School Placement Test is being given on Saturday, February 13, 2021 (snow make-up date: Saturday, February 20, 2021)

Placement Test for Algebra II/Trigonmetry |
|
Any incoming freshman student who is currently taking an 8th grade Algebra class with an average of 87 percent or higher is invited to take the Algebra II Trigonometry placement test. If the student passes the test with at least a 75 percent, maintains an average of 87 percent or higher, and is recommended by his/her current teacher, he/she will be eligible to take Algebra II Trigonometry as a freshman when enrolling at Delone Catholic High School. The Algebra II Trigonometry placement test will be given on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. (snow make-up date is Saturday, March 6, 2021) at Delone Catholic High School. Students should report to the main entrance on S. Oxford Avenue between 8:45 and 8:55 a.m. Students will be given 1 ¼ hour to complete the test and should be picked up by 10:30 a.m. To register for the test, please click here. March for Life Activities |

Normally, our students and Spiritual Life Director would be gearing up to leave for the March for Life on Friday; however, for a multitude of reasons, this year's event has been moved to be almost entirely virtual.
The Respect Life Club will be hosting virtual participation during lunch periods on Friday, but there are other events happening all throughout the day. Below is a schedule and links for the day's activities.

This week our virtue theme is COURTESY - the strength to always treat others with civility and honor. Courtesy is a much-needed virtue in today’s world. We need to treat others with courtesy and respect no matter their position or rank. Everyone deserves courtesy! This week, be an example for your peers and your family of someone who lives a virtuous life by treating others with courtesy, no matter how they treat you.
