Dear McDonald Street Families~

We are about to embark on a new chapter for learning. Remote/ e-learning is new for all of us. This is not something any of us planned for or could possibly imagine. As students, parents, staff, and school administrators adjust to this new way of learning, please know that the McDonald Street Staff members are working tirelessly to make this as smooth of a process as possible. We are all fully committed to making this new style of learning successful and are here to help and support you every step of the way!

All packets of student work went home with students this week. For those students who were not at school, their materials can be picked up at the Xavier Middle School Scrip office today from 7:30-5pm and tomorrow from 7:30-noon, as the office will not be open after this week. Be sure to stop by and get your material for remote learning during this time. All remote/ e-learning will begin on Monday, March 23rd! Also, students came home with many more library books that typically allowed for check-out because we wanted to make sure that all students had the ability to continue reading from home. Please keep track of and protect these books to ensure that books come back to us in the same condition as when they left. Your cooperation is appreciated with this!

As your family begins to plan for what the next couple of weeks is going to look like for your children, I want to give you a picture of what to expect. There will also be more specific directions and information coming to you from your child’s classroom teacher. My hope is that this will help to eliminate some of the stress and anxiety that so many of you are experiencing right now, and also allow you to structure your child’s day and set realistic expectations.

In an effort to not overwhelm you, staff have been instructed to keep things as simple and flexible as possible for families. We recognize that there is a lot going on right now and that parents are not necessarily trained educators to help their children with school work at home. Our hope is that you can make this process as fun as possible for your family and take this opportunity to learn new things and participate in different activities throughout your day! Not all learning needs to take place with a book and a pencil. One routine that I do suggest implementing into your daily schedule is setting a designated time for prayer with your children. This is something that they are all accustomed to in school, and it really helps to calm and center many students while turning to God in their time of need.

PARAMETERS AND GUIDELINES FOR DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS INCLUDE:

*PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN:
Goal is 30 minutes of planned activity per day of hands-on and interactive activities. Also, specialists have added weekly activities and ideas for your child to participate in.

*GRADES 1 & 2:
Goal is 1 hour per day of planned activities- can be broken into two 30 minute time blocks. Also, specialists have added weekly activities and ideas for your child to participate in.

*GRADES 3 & 4:
