Celebrate your School Board members!

Communities across the state are honoring the service of boards of education Feb. 14 to 20 for School Board Recognition Week.

Ray-Pec School Board members volunteer their time and energy to help shape the future of the district. We appreciate all of their hard work and dedication!

Thanks to our Raymore-Peculiar School Board members:
  • President Ruth Johnson
  • Vice President Paul Coffman
  • Aaron Howlett
  • Billy King
  • Bill Lowe
  • Kim York
School Board members are elected by local constituents and do not receive compensation for their efforts.  All Missouri citizens are asked to recognize the contributions of these men and women and focus attention on the vital role they play in the education of our children.  School Board Recognition Week is sponsored by the Missouri School Boards' Association.
Proposition S includes updates at all schools

Work at the Ray-Pec Academy building
If approved by voters in April, Proposition S includes maintenance and improvement projects at every school.

Proposition S is the $72 million no-tax-rate-increase bond issue that Ray-Pec voters will consider on the April 6 ballot.

The District has more than 1.2 million square feet of learning, technology, and facility space. A sustained building re-investment and facility upkeep program is needed to continue to provide safe and efficient learning opportunities for students.

The proposal includes these projects:
  • Replace HVAC rooftop units at Eagle Glen, Peculiar, Raymore, Shull, Creekmoor, Bridle Ridge, South Middle School, Academy, and the High School
  • Update playgrounds at Peculiar, Creekmoor, and Raymore elementary schools
  • Replace windows and storefront at Timber Creek, Stonegate, Peculiar, Raymore, and Shull
  • Renovate or replace roof sections at Eagle Glen, Shull, Stonegate, Timber Creek, South Middle School, Academy, and the High School
  • Parking lots renovations at Bridle Ridge, Creekmoor, Shull, Timber Creek, East Middle School, South Middle School, Academy, Panther Stadium, and the Administrative Services Center
The School Board approved placing the bond issue on the ballot to support priorities identified in the long-range facility plan.

Ashley Jones resigns from School Board

Ashley Jones
Ray-Pec School Board Member Ashley Jones has resigned from the School Board. She submitted a letter of resignation, effective Feb. 4.

Board Policy 0324 states that the Board will conduct an interview process to select an individual to fill the vacant seat until the next school board election. Jones's term expires in April 2021, and she chose not to run for re-election.

Because the election is less than two months away, the School Board on Feb. 11 voted to suspend board policy and leave the seat vacant until someone is selected in the April 6 election.

Board President Ruth Johnson thanked Jones for her service on the Board. As a parent in the community and a Special Education professional in another school district, Jones has provided helpful insights during her term. Jones was elected to the Board in April 2018.
No school on Feb. 15 and 16

Ray-Pec schools are not in session on Monday, Feb. 15, in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.

Schools are not in session on Tuesday, Feb. 16, to allow time for parent-teacher conferences.

There are no classes on Feb. 15 and 16 for students, including those enrolled in VIPR (Virtual Instruction Program of Ray-Pec).
