LANDSCAPE WATERING REDUCED TO TWO DAYS PER WEEK EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Azusa Light & Water (ALW) urges all customers to reduce water use to avoid future severe restrictions.

Drought conditions are getting dire. According to the US drought monitor, 97% of the State is experiencing severe drought and water supplies statewide and locally remain below normal levels.

At the special meeting of the Utility Board on May 31, ALW recommended reducing outdoor watering schedule to two days per week effective immediately until further notice and continue to implement other water use restrictions. These restrictions have been in place since 2017, which helped ALW customers meet the 20% water use reduction required by the State.

What does it mean to ALW customers?

1) Customer must reduce landscape watering to two days per week.

Residential:

Even Addresses: Thursday, Sunday

Odd Addresses: Wednesday, Saturday

Commercial/HOA: Monday, Friday

Watering by a handheld hose with a positive shutoff nozzle, a bucket or watering can, or drip irrigation, may be done on any day.

2) Continue to follow Mandatory Water Restrictions includi (see Water Rule 21 for complete list).

  • No lawn watering and landscape irrigation between 9 AM to 6 PM.
  • No excess water runoff
  • No washing down of hardscapes, except to alleviate immediate health, fire, or sanitation hazards
  • Repair leaks within 48 hours

Beginning July 1st, customers who do not comply will receive a warning, followed by escalating fines up to $200 for residential users and up to $600 for commercial users. To report water waste, please call the Drought Hotline at 626-812-5119.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO CONSERVE WATER. THANK YOU.

CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY SAFELY

If your celebration is going to include fireworks, only use the Safe and Sane variety in legally designated areas of the City. The fines for the discharge of illegal fireworks in Azusa start at $1000 and increase to $2000 for a second infraction and $5000 for any subsequent infraction. The sale of fireworks starts at noon on July 1st. For more information, please call the Fourth of July Hotline at 626-812-5010.

MYLAR BALLOONS CAUSE POWER OUTAGES!

The power outage on Memorial Day was caused by mylar balloons. Mylar balloons are colorful and festive but their metallic coatings can cause a short circuit or power surge when they come in contact with power lines. Celebrate graduation or Father's Day with flowers, games, and food instead!

ATHENS TO START TAGGING TRASH CANS

Athens Services has given Azusa customers at least four months to get used to their new trash carts. Beginning July 1st, Athens Services will start tagging trash carts that do not follow collection guidelines. Tagged carts will not be serviced.

  • Overfilled or tightly packed carts
  • Carts that are over 150 pounds
  • Carts blocked by cars or any other obstruction
  • Carts containing hazardous waste, electronics or construction debris
