Dear Mountain Laurel Families:

As we were all celebrating our cherished May Day, albeit in our separate homes but together in spirit, news fell that NYS schools would remain closed until the end of the school year. Although most of us expected this decision from Governor Cuomo, as it is the best course of action to respect the safety and health of our students, teachers, staff and community, the heartache we all experienced must be acknowledged.

Our thoughts first went to our dear eighth grade class and the traditional milestone performances and celebrations that mark the end of their journey at Mountain Laurel Waldorf School. Be assured that our determination to honor this beautiful class and their teacher will not waver. Ms. Gill and the College are lovingly, and without a doubt, creatively, planning for their well deserved, but what will surely be a very unique graduation ceremony.

As for the Fall, we count on being open and welcoming children into the classrooms when school resumes, and are in the process of planning multiple possible ways of moving forward in the areas of curriculum and teaching, health and safety, and school finances. Please know that, depending on the health and safety conditions, we are committed to bringing a full and nurturing Waldorf education to every child in our school next year, and to working with you to make that possible.

We look forward to the moment when we can gather again to celebrate the presence of one another in our respective lives. Until then, we thank you for your patience and support throughout these uncertain times, and know that we will continue to draw on a spirit of collaboration in the coming weeks to carry us forward.

Wishing you health and light,

Susan and Patricia
