MAB Goes to Capitol Hill!
This past week, your MAB traveled to Washington for the NAB Leadership Conference and to meet with lawmakers to share success stories and discuss issues facing broadcasters in Michigan. 18 Members joined the MAB February 24 - 25.

As the calendar flips to March, many of us have put our trust in Punxsutawney Phil's weather forecasting expertise that an early spring is coming. A surer place to put our trust, however, is in the guarantee that there are always some regulatory dates about which broadcasters should be aware. While March is a month without with many of the regularly scheduled deadlines for renewals, EEO public file reports or Quarterly Issues Programs lists, there are still plenty of regulatory dates about which you should take notice. West Michigan SBE Chapter Says
Goodbye To Dave Grant
On Thursday (2/27), SBE Chapter 102 said their goodbyes to Grand Rapids Cumulus Chief Engineer Dave Grant who is leaving to be the Director of Engineering for Cumulus in Dallas. Dave has served as the Certification Chairman for 20+ years for the Chapter. The send-off for Dave was at the Chapter's monthly lunch meeting.

Scheduling has begun for the 2020 Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP). The MAB conducts these alternative inspections regionally from April to October.  Learn More

WKAR's Elkins Speaks on NextGen TV at APTS Public Media Summit
WKAR Public Media (East Lansing) Director of Broadcasting and General Manager Susi Elkins spoke this past Tuesday (2/25) at the 2020 APTS Public Media Summit in Washington, D.C. during a session titled "Collaboration with National Partners on Spectrum Opportunities."  WKAR is one of the public stations that is currently experimenting with NextGen TV technology and launched Apollo PublicTV this past December.   Read More

Three Michigan Stations Finalists in NAB Crystal Awards
Three Michigan stations have been announced as finalists for the 33rd annual NAB Crystal Radio Awards. Congratulations to WKQI-FM (Detroit), WSGW-AM (Saginaw) and WWJ-AM (Detroit). Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.  Read More

WFUR-FM Sold to Bible Broadcasting Network
On February 27, an application was filed with the FCC to transfer to license of WFUR-FM (Grand Rapids) from Furniture City Broadcasting Corporatiion to Bible Broadcasting Network of Charlotte, NC.  WFUR-FM has been owned by Furniture City and the Kuiper family since it signed on in 1960.  Read More

Midwestern Broadcasting Closes on WKLT; New Morning Show and Simulcast
On February 24, Midwestern Broadcasting closed on its purchase of Northern Broadcast's WKLT-FM (Kalkaska/Traverse City) and, on first day of ownership, brought back Steve 'Omelette' Normandin to the station's morning show.  Read More

WFCX/WFDX to Sign Off Pending Ownership Changes
Northern Broadcast's WFCX-FM (Leland) and WFDX-FM (Atlanta) has announced (2/26) that the stations will be leaving the air at midnight on February 29.  WFCX was recently sold to Central Michigan University and that sale was approved by the FCC on February 21. Read More

Over $20,000 Raised During WLEN 2020 Kiwanis Radio Auction
The Kiwanis Club of Adrian, in partnership with Lenawee Broadcast's WLEN-FM, hosted its 26th Annual Radio Auction on February 8. The auction featured hundreds of items donated by local businesses up for bid.  Read More

The MAB Foundation Board of Directors approved a new partnership with Central Michigan University's School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts for the Fall 2020 semester.
The partnership will focus on developing mentoring relationships between students with an Electronic Media Sales Minor and industry professionals.
