MARCH 18 MESSAGE TO THE CONGREGATION
|
|
REV. AARON STOCKWELL
REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
Annie Dillard once wrote “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” How we spend our lives can also be a statement of our values. What do the moments where we experience awe and wonder say about our values?
Rev. Aaron Stockwell has served Unitarian Universalist congregations in Massachusetts, Texas, and Kansas. He is currently the Interim Minister of the UU Congregation of Lawrence, KS. Aaron is a graduate of Lesley University and Andover Newton Theological School.
We will be trying a Zoom "Fellowship Time" immediately after the service. To access the call, please click on this link from your laptop or phone (you may need to download Zoom first, for free):
https://uuma.zoom.us/j/5316767272
. From any phone you can also dial 312 626 6799 and when prompted, dial the meeting ID: 531 676 7272.
If you would like to share a thought for the Joys, Concerns, and Sorrows section of the service, please submit it to Rev. Florence Caplow at
minister@uucuc.org
. Please let her know whether you would like your message read aloud in the online service and/or published in next week's enews.

DENISE CAWLEY
REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
Sunday, March 29 at 10:15 a.m. -
In this service we will explore simple ways we might incorporate spiritual practice into our lives, little by little. It doesn’t have to be scary or difficult. In fact, pathetic effort is ideal! The choir will be singing.

UUCUC facilities are closed
During this time of social distancing, staying in touch and checking in with each other is going to be very important. We hope you will consider being part of our "Buddy System" so we can care for one another.
You can sign up here:
https://uucuc.breezechms.com/form/2184f1. Buddies will check in with each other regularly by phone to provide connection, companionship, and connections to help if needed. This is a great way to help each other.

UUCUC'S MINDFULNESS
GOOGLE HANGOUT SIGN-UP
In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever to continue the practices that support our well-being and strengthen our community. With this in mind, the Sunday morning mindfulness group has moved online to Google Hangouts, with a plan to hold online mindfulness practices at least twice weekly. If you would like to participate, even if just occasionally, please fill in the information on the linked form. This allows us to include you in the Google Hangout, and keep you updated about the schedule.

JOYS AND SORROWS
cards that specifically noted a request to print in eNews are featured in this section.
From Sam Beshers: A big Thank You to all who listened!! It really made us feel that we were part of something larger. And a joy and thank you for those who sang harmony during the hymns and the Joys and Sorrows.
From Randy Locke: Happy Birthday to my father on his 81 st birthday.
From Jim Hannum: Concern for all the people in our community who will suffer economically from our efforts to social distance Please think of all the waiters, barbers, massage therapists and others who depend on face to face business.
From Tegan Stynoski: Joy: thankful that technology is available to alleviate the isolation of quarantine.
From Julie Laut: I am thankful for the feeling of connection this morning through this new medium at a time of such high anxiety and physical distance. I am reminded that we are not alone - we are all a part of this beloved UUCUC family.
From Jenny Goodwine: I want to bless and be grateful to my mother, who is the caretaker of my father with multiple sclerosis in Champaign. May they stay safe and quarantined and grounded in the safety of the divine.
From Kathy Frizzell: Good morning! I heard a new word this morning that is descriptive of the positive side of these times and is lifting me up: “Corona-Kindness.” There are so many Corona-Kindnesses being shown within our neighborhoods, our
community, and within this church. So wonderful to be reminded of our loving
connections to each other.
From Marie McEnroe:
I'm sending love to my sister, in a nursing home on "lockdown" and not allowed visitors.

UUCUC Shared Offering.
Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive half of our weekly Sunday plate collections, designated checks written to UUCUC with organization's name written in the memo line, cash envelopes designated for "Shared Offering" within the specified month and on-line donations through our
GIVE WEBPAGE
.
During the month of March, we will support the
Randolph Street Community Garden. The Randolph Street Community Garden is a volunteer run project committed to providing an opportunity for the residents of the North-end of Champaign to grow their own fresh organic produce. We believe that community gardening makes our neighborhood more cohesive and improves the quality of our lives.

It seems like there is a smartphone app for everything these days—paying for coffee, checking in for a flight, arranging a ride—it’s because apps make life easier. And, with the current concern about COVID-19, the use of an app can provide a way for us to continue supporting our church even if we can’t attend or if we chose to stop passing the collection plate due to concerns about spreading the virus.
