2020-21 calendar discussed, second vote set
Trustees discussed the potential 2020-21 district calendar, hearing from curriculum staff about its development as well as the results of the community input poll between two options. Based on community input, a second vote with a new option will be held.
Community members had the opportunity to vote between a calendar that started on Aug. 13 and another that started on Aug. 17, with changes to vacation days between the calendars. Both calendars end the school year on May 21. As voted by community members, the most popular option was the calendar featuring the earlier Aug. 13 start date.
Following strong feedback for an option with a later start date, Northwest ISD has opened a second calendar poll featuring the most popular option in the first poll and a new option featuring a later Aug. 20 start date and May 28 end date. The community can now vote in this poll at
www.nisdtx.org/calendars.
Trustees will vote on a final calendar at their Jan. 30 meeting.
TAPR results presented during open hearing
The research, assessment and accountability department presented the results of the 2019 Texas Academic Progress Reports, which provided Northwest ISD with an “A” rating and all its schools with “A” to “C” ratings.

at this link. The TAPR is an annual product of the Texas Education Agency based on data provided by school districts across the state, and the open hearing is a requirement for all school districts.
Legislative priorities discussed
Each Texas legislative session, Northwest ISD’s Board of Trustees creates a set of legislative priorities they believe best represents the interest of the district, its students and families.
Trustees discussed these priorities in advance of the 2021 Texas Legislative Session. To help decide their future priorities, they looked at the reviewed the district’s 2019 legislative priorities, which
can be viewed here. They will determine 2021 priorities at a future meeting.
Superintendent’s Performance Objectives discussed
Trustees annually help steer the direction of the district by setting performance objectives for the superintendent, and trustees used Monday’s meeting to discuss proposed objectives for the 2020-21 school year.
Trustees reviewed the current performance objectives, which
can be viewed here, to help determine the next objectives. Trustees will determine the next performance objectives at a future meeting.
Reports presented to board
District leadership and partners presented several subjects to the board as reports, including:
- Full-day pre-kindergarten
- College, career and military preparedness
- Long-Range Planning Committee

In other action, the board
- Recognized Adams Middle School students who graduated from the Fort Worth Police Department’s Teen Academy.
- Recognized district human resources staff and the district as a whole for its inclusion in the Dallas Morning News’ Top Workplace distinction program.
- Recognized Jonice Macky, administrative assistance to the deputy superintendent, for earning the most recent GEM Award for her outstanding service to students, families, community members and staff.
- Approved a mutual aid agreement with neighboring Wise County school districts to provide assistance in potentially regionalized civil emergencies. The agreement would provide shared resources and coordinated efforts in such incidents.
