August Newsletter
We're open every Saturday
9:00 am to 1:00 pm
and our regular weekday hours.
We still accept both in-person visits and telehealth.
In the next weeks we'll be offering
rapid 15 minute COVID-19 tests on site,
for both kids and adults!
We're still in this pandemic and it's not clear when it'll be controlled. Theoretically, if everyone social distances, wears masks, washes their hands, and stays away from big gatherings, it could be controlled in a short period of time, but we need to each do our part.

We're waiting for the vaccine, but when the research phases are completed, it will probably be available first to the higher risk groups, the elderly, and those with at-risk immune systems. We need the vaccine to control the disease, but at a high rate for the population. One of the aspects that effects control for influenza is variability of the virus season to season, but another is the very low level of vaccination in the population. To eradicate a disease, a very high level of vaccination, above 90% in the population, needs to be achieved.

This winter children are going to be affected by COVID-19, but also by influenza, RSV virus, street infections, etc., and above all control measures for COVID-19 will help to control the other typical winter infections. We highly recommend to get immunized against influenza as early as possible in the flu season.

As worrisome as the infections are, the lack of social interaction with their peers, their teachers, and families brings negative effects on children's development of speech development, motor skills , to emotional and relationships development. Kids are suffering for mental health issues. Teens and young adults are feeling overwhelmed and are suffering from anxiety and depression at higher number pre-pandemic era. I know adults as well; we are all suffering.

Social isolation, the fear of getting sick, having experienced death of loved ones is producing increased anxiety, risking the worsening or development of psychiatric problems.

For special ed. kids, the effect of social isolation is much more severe, and they are not able to understand why they can’t go to school is generating a regression on their improvements on all areas of development. This is a real problem.

In-person school attendance helps alleviate those problems as beyond the academic children have the opportunity for growth on their social skills, academic, and emotional development. At school they receive academic, emotional, and social support.

On the other hand, students, teachers and staff need to be on safe environments in order to reduce risk of spreading more the infection.

Until now, at MCPS only on-line classes will resume, postponing face-to face education until next year.
As parents, you know your main way to transfer your values is not through just talking but though how you live, being a role model for everything, but particularly on the pandemic is essential to your kids for them to feel secured and adapt to new rules. In other words, please wear masks, and follow the recommendation given by CDC, then your kids will adapt easier to wear masks , hand washing and follow social distancing as the new normal for schools, once they open, if at home is natural were mask and everybody do it.

Another problem related to the pandemic is the serious problem related to food insecurity, and deterioration of the socio-economic conditions. Montgomery County is the second county in the area with the highest increment of hunger in the DMV area, based on Food Pantries, PG County has more than 90,000 people unemployed.

Children and teens they used to get meals at school, now MCPS is still supporting families with meal distributions. Please check here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/coronavirus/meals/, but still is to enough, our social problems have not been controlled.

Due to this social problem and mental problem we are creating new survey to find food insecurity, housing problems, umployement, etc anything that may affect access to or get better health. Social determinants of health survey. We don’t have a social worker on site but we are equipped with resources to support you. Please, don’t be shy to answer the survey to help you.

If your kids have Medicaid another way to support you , we can guide you to help you with application and renewal of your health insurance. We don’t do it for you, but we can help you on your process. For private Insurances , if you have a bill with us and find yourself with financial problem, please contact us and speak with the Office Manager/biller to offer you a payment plan.
Lastly, at The Village Pediatric and Wellness Center, We recently were recognized as a Patient Center Medical Home with behavioral distinction by a highly nationally respected company that certified quality of medical services, NCQA. We are so honored to receive the recognition

Estamos abiertos todos
los sábados
9:00 a.m. a 1:00 p.m.
