Hello, Fellowship Family!

My first in-person Palm Sunday parade at FPC didn't disappoint! I appreciate everyone humoring me with the waving of palms and shouts of "Hosanna!". We celebrated and "re:joiced" Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, despite knowing what is to come in the next few days. This email is finding itself in your inbox a bit early this week to make sure you're aware of the services available to mark the events of this week we call holy:
Tomorrow night, we will "re:flect" and "re:member" the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples before his death and resurrection. All are invited (in-person or online) to worship together at 6 pm for our Maundy Thursday worship service. Unfortunately, childcare is not available for this service, although all are welcome to the Sanctuary, where the Prayground will be available.
Twenty-four hours later, we will mark Jesus's "re:jection" during our Good Friday service. The service, full of scripture readings and music, is sure to be a special event to mark the day. We will welcome Rebekah Carlson to our service, where she will share her gifts on the violin. Unfortunately, again, childcare is not available for this service, although all are welcome to the Sanctuary, where the Prayground will be available.
Wonderful celebrations are to come when we mark the "re:surrection" on Easter Sunday morning:
  • Sunrise worship will take place at 7am in the courtyard. This service will not be livestreamed.
  • An Easter Breakfast will follow, starting at 7:30, in the Fellowship Hall. We will have an international menu with items from Liberia, Iran, and Jamaica, as well as the "usual" continental breakfast additions. It will be a wonderful time to be together.
  • An egg hunt for children up to 5th grade will take place on the playground and throughout the church grounds off the Fellowship Hall at 9 am. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall to do that - don't forget your basket!
  • We will serve as witnesses to the "re:surrection" at 9:30 for our worship service at 9:30, which will include communion and wonderful music again by guest Sonja Guthrie on French Horn.

What a week to re:flect as our "Re:Lent" Lenten journey comes to an end. I pray, for each of you, that you will be able to find time to think about the impact of the events on the week and what they mean to our faith. As you make plans for the next few days, I encourage you to invite a friend or neighbor to visit with us this weekend so they can also experience the joy and warmth of this Fellowship family.

The Mission Committee thanks those who were able to stay after worship to help assemble the Easter Basket Meals for refugee families this past Sunday. There were many, who are not pictured, who we also have to thank for their contributions of time, talent, and energy to delivering the meals as well - THANK YOU!

Wondering what to do with all of those grocery shopping bags? The Missions committee will be collecting “gently used” plastic grocery bags for Backpack Beginnings. Please bring any you don’t use to church with you, leaving them on the Missions table in the Dogwood Lobby closest to the double doors leading towards the classrooms.
Thank you for the simple gesture of setting a green bag of food on your porch. 75 volunteer drivers gathered 11,147 pounds of food for Backpack Beginnings and High Point Pantries. This food will help feed hungry children in Guilford County. Way to go, Gesturers! Your time and generosity make a difference in our community.

Prayer Concerns and Celebrations

  • Terry Anderson requests prayers for her niece, Kasey Bradley, who is hospitalized for an intestinal blockage. Terry also requests prayer for her sister, who is traveling to be with Kasey.
  • Judy Meyler celebrates the visitors that joined her on Sunday morning, from India and from NC A&T University, respectfully. They were visiting to be able to help with the Easter Basket Meals for refugee families being assembled after worship.
  • Greg and Gail French celebrate that their new grandchild, born later this year, is a boy.
  • Phyllis King celebrates that her son and his family were able to finally take a much-needed vacation.
  • Mark Kirstner and Melissa Johnson celebrate their marriage by the Rev. Joel Long on Saturday. They will honeymoon in Savannah, Ga
  • Donna Steele requests prayers for her childhood friend, Frances, and her daughter, Christy - a young mother of two, recently diagnosed with aggressive Stage 4 cancer.
  • Peggy Koppel requests prayers for her friend, Shelby Ganim, and her husband, Joey, who is gravely ill in hospital, awaiting surgery for his gall bladder    
  • Peggy Koppel celebrates that her friend, Michael Boswell, had successful surgery and is recovering well.
  • Barbara Smith celebrates her son’s retirement and gives thanks that her grandson has safely returned from a three-week trip to Europe.
  • John Archambault celebrates that his cousin, Dennis, is recovering from his heart attack in a cardiac rehabilitation facility.
  • John Archambault requests prayers for his friend, Todd Southard, who is awaiting a donor for liver transplant.
  • Chuck and Carol Morgan celebrate their son, Ronald Morgan, on his retirement from the Army after thirty years of service. Now stationed in Belgium, Ronald will move to Germany. We celebrate with them and are grateful for his service to our country.
  • Betty Crutchfield requests prayers for Lucy Robbins, her boss’s daughter, who has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
  • Ben Wordsworth requests prayers for all those living in his rental community as the rent has almost doubled in cost.
  • Prayers for Ukraine and those caught in the crossfire as the war continues.
  • Fred Campbell’s friend, Kurt, is home and undergoing rehab after a long hospitalization due to COVID and related conditions. Continued prayers are appreciated as he continues to improve.
