Mosaic installed in the Narthex

The mosaic installed in the Narthex floor this week, as part of the Nave renovation, stemmed from the idea of including meaningful symbolism as a visible representation of the values of our parish. The stunning artwork is by parishioner Bob Erskine, captured in stone with old world artisanship by Matteo Randi of Rugo Stone. The overall design was a collaborative effort, with significant input by Father Jon Buffington of Trinity Iconography Institute at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. The mosaic portrays our communal journey as Christians, honoring the legacy of St. Columba in our common mission of outreach in the name of Christ.

St. Columba is portrayed at the helm of the traditional Celtic currach in which he and his fellow travelers journeyed from Ireland to Iona, Scotland (the Iona monastery shown), where his accomplishments are legendary. Among them, the first written record of an encounter with the Loch Ness monster as depicted. His twelve fellow travelers in our mosaic are diverse; all are welcome on our shared journey. The dove as the Holy Spirit, the scallop shell, and the baptismal font centered on the mosaic (when not in use for sacrament) remind us of the beginning of our Christian journey, and our baptismal vows, in transitioning from the Narthex to the Nave.
Want to sing this summer?

Summer Singers is a pick-up choir that forms each Sunday during the summer to learn and sing special music for that morning’s worship. The group gathers in the music room at 9:45 am for a quick warm-up, and then prepares an offertory anthem to share at the 10:30 am nave service. Singers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to join the Summer Singers each Sunday, beginning June 19 and continuing through the first week in September, or on any Sunday you are available!

News and Events
Good News from the Refugee Response Ministry

The three Afghan families we are sponsoring continue to thrive and adjust to life in America. Finding employment is key to their success. Can you help?

One father has 13 years of IT experience. His English is proficient, he's legal to work, and intelligent. Do you have a connection to an IT department that might consider him? Do you know of an open position?

One mother has the cooking skills that could lead to a catering business. Can you help with this pursuit? Developing a brochure, getting the word out, and figuring out logistics will all be needed.

If you can help in these searches for employment please contact Keri Piester (keri.piester@gmail.com) or Shelly Gehshan (sgehshan@gmail.com) to offer your ideas. Working together will lead to success.
