Parish Conversations about the Potential Capital Campaign Survey Results

Sunday, July 17, 24 & 31
In Church After Each Service

On the last three Sundays in July, you'll have an opportunity to receive answers to your questions about our Potential Capital Campaign and what all the surveys mean and don't mean. These conversations will hopefully provide clarity about the topic of a Potential Capital Campaign. Yes, we are Still Listening.

The wardens will be there, along with our clergy and others on the committee exploring the topic. We hope the 10 or so minutes we plan for these conversations each Sunday will bring clarity and help direct our vision for Good Sam.

Beginning Monday!
Vacation Bible School

Beginning Monday, July 11, there’s going to be a lot of fun, learning, playing, singing and laughter because Vacation Bible School begins!

The theme this year is “KIDS LIKE ME – Bible stories of amazing kids doing amazing things!” Ann Backus, along with a large group of helpers and teachers, have planned a jam-packed week which promises to keep our young participants excited and busy.

As we have for several years, we are partnering with Peace Lutheran. If you haven’t registered, there is still time. Click the link below or pick up a form in Henslee Hall. We begin at 9 am each morning and end at noon, with the exception of Friday when we conclude at 11 am. And, don't forget our Family & Friends program at 7 pm on Thursday.

REGISTRATION FORMS - DOWNLOAD, PRINT, FILL OUT & RETURN TO GOOD SAMARITAN OR ANN BACKUS - You can even take a picture of your completed form (front and back) and email the pics to Ann Backus at ann@goodsamknox.org.

Tuesday Healing Service

We're taking another week break from the Healing Service on Tuesday, July 12. We'll miss being together, but look forward to being back in the Good Sam Chapel & on Zoom beginning July 19.

Join Us For:
Fun Friday Fiesta!

Friday, July 29
5-7 PM

Join us on Friday, July 29 from 5-7 pm for the first of our FOURTH FRIDAY FUN & FELLOWSHIP parties! This first event will actually be on the 5th Friday, but the ones that follow in August, September, and October will be on the 4th Friday.

Each month, there’ll be a different theme. For July, we’re calling this inaugural event “FUN FRIDAY FIESTA”. Sangria, margaritas, and non-alcoholic drinks will be available, along with plenty of chips & guacamole, cheese dip, crackers, veggies, etc. We’ll even have music!!

Let’s get together and have some summer fun. If you can’t stay the whole time, that’s ok. On your way to dinner? Stop by on your way. Had an early dinner? Stop by on your way home….whatever fits your schedule. Come as you are – see you there!

Good Sam Book Group

Thursday, July 14
6:00 PM

Our selection for July is The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. In 1954, Emmett Watson, age18, is driven home to Nebraska by the warden of the juvenile work farm, where he had served 18 months for involuntary manslaughter. His intention is to pick up his brother, 8, and head to California to start life anew. Unbeknownst to Emmett, two of his friends from the work farm have hidden themselves in the trunk of the warden's trunk, and they have hatched an altogether different plan, one that will take them on a fateful journey in the opposite direction - to the City of New York.

Future selections include Memphis by Tara Stringfellow in August, Gilead by Marilynne Robinson in September, Matrix by Lauren Groff in October, and Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro in November. Please join us!

A quick note: Kathy Gray will be out of town for the July, August, and possibly September meetings. In her absence, Sabra Parish will lead the group. For questions, please contact her at ksparish@comcast.net or 865-679-0172.

Sign-up To Give The Altar Flowers

During church services, how often have you said to yourself “Wow, the altar flowers are beautiful!”

We have some talented folks on our Flower Guild, but they depend on your dedications and donations to purchase the flowers they arrange each week. Please go to our online signup and pick a Sunday to give the altar flowers in thanksgiving for or in memory of someone special or to commemorate a special event.

Detailed instructions are included on the online portal form.

**PLEASE NOTE: ON THIS FORM, WHERE IT ASKS YOU “HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTENDING”, THIS MEANS HOW MANY ALTAR FLOWER VASES YOU ARE GIVING. CHOOSE ONE ($35) OR TWO ($70).

You may pay through the online giving portal (choosing the Flower Fund Donation option in the giving portal. There is a required memo line for you to put the date for which you are giving the flowers. Cost: $35 for one vase; $70 for two vases.) Alternately, you can mail a check to the church (made out to Good Samaritan) or put a check in the plate on Sunday. Please put “Altar Flowers” and the date in the memo line. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: In the fall, when Good Sam begins a new program year, Altar Flower Sign-ups will likely return to signing up at church, in the Altar Flower Notebook on one of the tables in Henslee Hall.

Cash in the Plate

The Cash In The Plate For July 10 goes to Christ Lutheran ELCA, Nashville Nursery.

During their mission trip to Nashville, the Good Sam Youth learned of a need at Christ Lutheran ELCA, the church that graciously hosted their trip. This vibrant parish has 5 congregations worshipping in it, in 4 languages (2 Spanish, English, Swahili and Burmese)! Their nursery and children's space has been closed due to disrepair and lack of funds since covid. This church serves many families, and their youngest members have had to miss out on a safe formation space as a result. Your donations will help purchase the remaining items on their wish-list such as a safe crib, swaddle blankets, diverse Christian books and cleaning supplies. The church hopes to open the nursery on August 7th, and we want to surprise them with all these items prior to that event!

You can make an online cash plate gift to the cash in the plate on the Good Sam online giving page. There is an option on the giving page to give to the "Cash in Plate". As always, you may also send a check to Good Samaritan. (Please designate that it is for "Christ Lutheran" in the memo line).
